Full job description

MTC's vision is to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours that future proof UK manufacturing. Aligning technical content identified in MTC's core business to our apprenticeship and commercial (engineer upskilling) is at the core of our strategy.

This Engineering Trainer role is required to manage and develop a comprehensive and innovative teaching and learning experience in a variety of practical and theoretical skills within the current apprenticeship standards.

The role will require you to deliver high quality technical training to small groups of learners through face-to-face or online learning.

You will also develop softer skills which are embedded within apprenticeships. This will require you to provide regular constructive feedback to learners and record the impact of their own learning on a regular basis.

Key Activities

Effective delivery of mechanical based knowledge and practical subjects at level 2, 3 and HTC/HNC – L4, developing independent learners
Effective practical delivery of Hand Fitting, Assembly, Turning, Milling and CNC programming / operating
Enable apprentice progression towards successful completion
Manage physical learning resources and teaching spaces required to ensure the training and assessment of learners is achieved within the guided learning hours
Learning content creation and development of resources, schemes-of-work and assessment materials
Identify and coordinate the integration of relevant existing training offers from industry partners into the apprenticeship scheme of work
Monitor the learning environment
Ensure learner workplace health, safety and welfare by working with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

Communication

Excellent written and oral communication skills
Effective questioning technique
Proficient in IT to communicate accurate and timely information
Empathic to understand challenges and emotions
Adaptable to work with diversity and individual needs

Innovation

Strive to improve our technical training offering by developing new and interactive methods of teaching
Integrate the latest industry standards into the curriculum through building relationships internally and externally
Be creative in the approach to supporting and developing apprentices
Encourage apprentices to be curious and explore new ideas
Encourage apprentices to think creatively, prototype solutions, and iterate.
Maintain own professional development in knowledge and skills, staying informed on relevant health and safety practice, industry trends, and best practice that supports guidance for apprentices

Knowledge

Strong background and experience of practical engineering Mechanical / Electrical based, but multi-skilled is preferable)
Ideally have experience of the following areas:

Milling
Turning
CNC Programming / Manufacturing

Ideally have an understanding of assessment methods and techniques
Ideally have an understanding of End Point Assessment
Ideally have an understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty

Qualifications

Level 3 Engineering qualification
Recognised teaching qualification or willing to gain this.
Recognised Assessor qualification or willing to gain this, such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.

Desirable:

Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSE's or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above.
Recognised Quality Assurance qualification, such as V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Recognised coaching qualification
Higher Education qualification (level 4 or above) in an Engineering discipline

Vetting Checks

Learners’ safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance to all MTC Training employees. All individuals are expected to actively contribute to our culture of safeguarding and vigilance to ensure learning is delivered in the safest environment possible.

Shortlisted candidates are subject to safer recruitment screening, including but not limited to:

Enhanced DBS with children’s barred list check.

The successful applicant will be required to promptly complete training relating to safeguarding and prevent and is expected to undertake ongoing training in relation to children’s safety and wellbeing.

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain our safeguarding culture and contribute to it by supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead and safeguarding team.

The successful applicant will be required to adhere to our Code of Conduct and share our commitment to the welfare of children.

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.

It represents one of the largest public sector investments in UK manufacturing and, after four years of planning and a 16 month build, the facility opened at Ansty Park in Coventry at the end of 2011.

In December 2011, there were 16 industrial members, 44 staff and just a few key pieces of equipment in the ‘workshop’.

Over the following seven years the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of our campus with the construction of three more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre and the National Centre for Additive Manufacturing.

Our role has also increased to cover not only R&D but also Training, Advanced Manufacturing Management and Factory Design.

We now have over 700 talented employees working with us.

During this time we have helped hundreds of companies across a range of industries and over 100 of them have become members of the MTC.
