Quarrybank Plumbers part of the Quarrybank Group is an established, award-winning plumbing and heating company serving customers across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
We have built our reputation on exceptional workmanship, reliability and customer care, supported by a fantastic team of experienced professionals.
As part of the wider Quarrybank Group, we are an ambitious, growing business — and we are now looking for an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of our day-to-day operations and help us deliver the next stage of our growth.
This is a key leadership position for someone who loves making businesses work better.
You will bring together people, processes, customers and performance, ensuring the business runs efficiently whilst continually looking for ways to improve and grow.
The Role
Working closely with the Directors, you will be responsible for the smooth and effective day-to-day operation of Quarrybank Plumbers.
You will lead the operational team, oversee service delivery, support our Customer Experience Manager, manage resources and capacity, improve systems and processes, and ensure the high standards associated with the Quarrybank name are maintained.
You’ll also play an important part in the company’s future — helping us develop our team, identify opportunities for growth and turn the Directors’ strategy into practical action.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day operations of Quarrybank Plumbers.
- Managing workflows, engineer diaries, resources and operational capacity.
- Ensuring jobs progress efficiently from initial enquiry through to completion, invoicing and aftercare.
- Monitoring operational performance and introducing improvements where required.
- Developing systems, procedures and processes that allow the business to operate more efficiently.
- Leading, motivating and developing the team.
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, training and development as the business grows.
- Setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable for their responsibilities and performance.
- Conducting regular team meetings and one-to-ones.
- Overseeing the Customer Experience Manager and ensuring exceptional standards of customer communication and service.
- Managing escalated operational and customer issues calmly and professionally.
- Monitoring customer feedback, reviews, complaints and recurring service issues.
- Ensuring workmanship, service delivery and operational standards remain consistently high.
- Overseeing relevant health & safety procedures, operational compliance, documentation and company policies.
- Supporting compliance with Gas Safe and other relevant industry standards.
- Overseeing company vehicles, equipment and operational assets.
- Working with suppliers and partners to ensure service, availability and commercial terms support the needs of the business.
- Monitoring operational costs and identifying unnecessary expenditure, waste or inefficiencies.
- Supporting the Directors with budgeting, forecasting and general financial oversight.
- Providing accurate operational information and reporting to support financial and strategic decision-making.
- Monitoring agreed operational KPIs and reporting performance to the Directors.
- Supporting and overseeing the company’s marketing strategy to ensure activity aligns with business objectives.
- Identifying new business opportunities, partnerships and potential revenue streams.
- Building relationships with local businesses, property professionals, landlords, developers and other strategic partners.
- Working collaboratively across the wider Quarrybank Group.
- Helping translate the Directors’ vision and strategy into measurable actions and results.
Who Are We Looking For?
You may currently be an Operations Manager, Service Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Operations Supervisor or similar within plumbing, heating, construction, property maintenance, building services or another field-service business.
Industry experience would be highly advantageous, but what matters most is your ability to lead people and run an efficient service operation.
You will ideally bring:
- Proven experience in an operational management role.
- Experience managing engineers, tradespeople or another field-based workforce.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Excellent organisational and resource-planning abilities.
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of budgets, costs and operational performance.
- Experience implementing or improving business processes.
- Confidence working with operational KPIs and management information.
- Excellent customer-service instincts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence dealing with challenging situations and difficult conversations.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Confidence using CRM, scheduling and business-management systems.
- A full UK driving licence.
The Person Behind the CV
We’re not simply looking for someone who can manage a diary and keep jobs moving.
We are looking for a leader.
Someone who takes ownership, sees what needs doing and makes it happen.
You’ll be:
Accountable — you take responsibility for outcomes and expect the same from your team.
Commercially aware — you understand that every operational decision ultimately affects the performance of the business.
A leader, not a fixer — you coach people, establish clear expectations and empower them to take responsibility rather than constantly stepping in and doing things for them.
Calm under pressure — you can deal with changing schedules, customers, engineers and unexpected problems without losing perspective.
Decisive — you’re comfortable making sensible decisions and moving things forward.
Highly organised — you can manage multiple priorities whilst keeping sight of the bigger picture.
People-focused — you enjoy developing individuals and building a strong team.
Customer-focused — you understand that our reputation has been built over many years and treat every customer interaction accordingly.
Comfortable with accountability — you’re prepared to have difficult conversations when standards aren’t being met.
Proactive — you don’t wait to be told that something needs improving.
Improvement-driven — you naturally ask, “How can we do this better?”
Growth-minded — you’re excited by the opportunity to help develop a successful independent business rather than simply maintain it.
What Does Success Look Like?
You’ll know you’re succeeding when:
- Operations run smoothly without constant Director intervention.
- Engineers are effectively scheduled and productive.
- Jobs are completed efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
- Customers receive excellent communication and service.
- Problems are identified and resolved quickly.
- The team understands their responsibilities and takes ownership.
- Operational costs and resources are well controlled.
- Systems and processes continue to improve.
- Customer satisfaction and reviews remain exceptionally strong.
- New team members are successfully recruited and developed.
- Business development initiatives are being progressed.
- The Directors have clear visibility of operational performance.
- The business has the structure and operational capacity to continue growing.
Why Quarrybank?
You’ll be joining an ambitious independent company where your contribution will genuinely matter.
This isn’t a corporate Operations Manager role where you’ll inherit rigid systems and spend your days reporting through layers of management.
We want someone who will bring ideas, challenge us, improve the way we work and help shape what Quarrybank Plumbers becomes next.
In return, we offer:
- A competitive salary.
- Performance-related bonus.
- Professional development and training.
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility.
- The opportunity to influence how the business develops.
- Career progression as the Quarrybank Group continues to grow.
- A supportive, collaborative and ambitious working environment.
Ready for your next challenge?
If you’re an experienced operational leader who enjoys developing people, improving businesses and delivering exceptional service, we’d love to hear from you.
