Housing Officer Job Description

Job Title: Housing Officer
Accountable to: Housing Co-ordinator, Service Manager

Job Purpose

The Housing Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management and upkeep of supported accommodation, ensuring properties are safe, well-maintained, and provide a clean and welcoming environment for residents. The post holder will support residents throughout their tenancy, from move-in to move-out, while promoting health and safety, maintaining accommodation standards, and working closely with colleagues to ensure residents receive appropriate support.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct weekly health and safety inspections of all properties, identifying and reporting hazards and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.

* Manage resident move-ins, ensuring all required paperwork is completed accurately and residents understand their licence agreement, house rules, and expectations.

* Manage resident move-outs, including end-of-tenancy procedures and supporting the eviction process where required, in accordance with organisational policies.

* Prepare and clean vacant rooms to ensure they are ready for new residents.

* Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout communal areas and undertake cleaning duties where necessary.

* Report maintenance issues promptly to the Housing Coordinator and monitor outstanding repairs where appropriate.

* Liaise with the office and Housing Coordinator regarding room availability, occupancy, and the status of vacant properties.

* Ensure all properties are maintained to an acceptable standard, carrying out basic practical tasks such as assembling furniture, removing rubbish, and preparing accommodation for occupancy.

* Build positive and professional relationships with residents, promoting a safe, respectful, and supportive living environment.

* Observe residents' wellbeing and report any safeguarding concerns, welfare issues, or significant changes in behaviour to Support Workers or Management without delay.

* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective communication and continuity of service.

* Maintain accurate records relating to property inspections, resident occupancy and maintenance issues.

* Comply with all organisational policies, including health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection requirements.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience

* Experience working in housing, supported accommodation, property management, or a similar environment.

* Good organisational and time management skills.

* Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.

* Good communication and interpersonal skills.

* Practical maintenance awareness and willingness to undertake basic property-related tasks.

* Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and the ability to recognise and report concerns appropriately.

* Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.

* Commitment to maintaining high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness.

Desirable

* Experience working with vulnerable adults or within supported housing services.

* Knowledge of tenancy management and housing procedures.

* Basic DIY or property maintenance skills.

* Full UK driving licence, business insurance and access to own vehicle

General Responsibilities
