Promotion and Communications Support Worker

– Unitarians in the Community

Thank you for your interest in this opportunity!

Context is everything for us! This is an exciting and innovative new initiative

supported by the Unitarian movement to support a new community of Unitarian

and like-minded people in the heart of Newcastle.

We have recently embarked on a brand new venture, and one that may be

replicated across the country. Being able to support, promote and get our

information out to as wider audience as possible is our exciting next step, and

helping us develop, grow, and learn.

This role will directly support our Project Lead, who is working on the first year of

the project where our aspirations are that there will be at least one regular weekly

(day/evening – on a Wednesday usually) spiritual gathering drawn from a new

community of people. In addition we are exploring a wide range of opportunities

and possibilities for outreach into areas of social action/initiatives - so there are

now great opportunities to build really effective communications and information

sharing.

This is a new part time post (6hrs a week) which can be worked flexibly with the

requirement to be at our Wednesday evening event – and bring us great

communications ideas and practical implementation. As this is very part time role,

we envisage that the postholder will focus on a small number of high impact

activities each month – but still encouraged to offer ideas and input into our plans

from a communications perspective.

Our new colleague will be:

 A self starter with great ideas and skills for building and delivering an

effective communications strategy

 Someone with creative gifts that will help ensure that our communications

and information inspires others and encourages them to be curious in

joining us in their spiritually reflective journey where we are open to

exploring religious freedom, and valuing different faiths and perspectives

 Someone who is able to build on great community relationships, spot

opportunities for effective communication and platforms, be able to use

social media really effectively and be at ease in ensuring communications

speak to people at all levels.

The promotion and communication support role is designed to:

✓ Enable us to have great communications which reach a wide local

audience(s)

✓ Contribute to our communications and development work generally, being

part of a process of innovation and growth, working in tandem with our

Project Lead, Trustees, partners and stakeholders.

✓ Specifically support communications and promotions for Newcastle

Unitarians Spiritual Development Programme, supporting their delivery,

growing awareness, attendance and engagement.

✓ More practically to

Plan and deliver promotion of events across social media, listings, print

and email, creating simple on-brand materials and content.

Support our Project Lead in developing opportunities to increase

awareness, attendance and engagement as the project develops.

Work with our Project Lead on the preparation and delivery of early

evening events, including setup, welcome, refreshments and pack-

down.

Help create a warm, inclusive experience, particularly for people

attending for the first time.

Keep records, listings and basic planning and evaluation information up

to date.

Core skills needed include:

✓ Effective communication and engagement skills using a variety of

communications tools and platforms

✓ Able to produce quality clear and attractive content that promote our

events, and activities on social media

✓ Having a warm and welcoming manner and confidence working with a wide

range of people

✓ Being comfortable in a setting where spirituality is explored without

requiring any particular religious belief

✓ Being naturally curious and engaged

✓ Well organised, with an eye for detail and spotting new opportunities to

explore to widen our communications reach

✓ Available for our regular weekly early evening event in Newcastle – and

being flexible for the remaining hours

✓ Experience in (or willing to learn) ticketing or design platforms such as

TicketTailor or Photoshop

Pay: £15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6.0 per week

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 6UF
