Company Details

Lincolnshire Pork Company is a progressive fifth-generation family farming business based in North Lincolnshire, combining traditional family values with market-leading food production, sustainability and innovation. Our award-winning business includes a 1,500-sow Red Tractor accredited pig enterprise, producing high-welfare pigs through flexible farrowing systems and straw-based growing accommodation across Lincolnshire. We have been recognised nationally with the National Pig Awards Sustainable Farming Award(2023) and Marketing Initiative of the Year (2025).

Alongside our livestock business, we farm 2,500 acres of arable land, producing cereals, potatoes, peas and sugar beet within a fully integrated farming system. Home-grown cereals feed our pigs, straw is used for bedding, and manure is recycled through our biogas plants before returning to the land as fertiliser. Sustainability is at the heart of our business, supported by wind, solar, anaerobic digestion and ammonia reduction technologies.

We also operate Uncle Henry's, an award-winning farm shop, butchery, café, bakery and visitor attraction. Our farm-to-fork approach has earned industry recognition, including a Great Taste 2-Star Award in 2026 for our pork leg joint. Role Overview

A rare opportunity has become available on one of our 750 breeding sow units (with progeny up to 35kg) due to our unit manager taking on a production management role. The new Manager will lead the current strong unit team and take ownership of the unit's welfare, production, people, compliance and financial performance. The manager will translate agreed company objectives into clear daily routines, identifying any causes of underperformance and delivering sustainable improvement.

Person Specification

The Breeding Unit Manager is responsible for the successful operation of the unit and is accountable to the Directors for the safe and effective performance of the unit. The role requires day-to-day leadership and management of pigs and people. The 750-sow unit has a current team of 6, with strong results. Using their experience coupled with effective leadership and management skills, the candidate will deliver high standards of animal welfare and breeding performance.

Key skills and attributes for the successful candidate will include:

Excellent pig experience - in all breeding stages of production from service, through to farrowing and weaning.
Unit management experience – successful as a pig unit manager – able to show evidence of leading, supervising and coordinating others and setting clear daily standards
Excellent biosecurity standards
Experience of herd health plans, vaccination and treatment procedures, as well as excellent recording of medicines, isolation and disease control measures.
Accurate record-keeper with confidence using herd-management software, spreadsheets, email and routine reporting tools.
Strong practical understanding of pig behaviour, welfare assessment, humane handling and timely intervention, with the confidence to coach others and challenge poor practice if necessary.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with internal and external stakeholders.
Leadership and management skills; to guide, motivate and progress the team.
Organised with a high attention to detail that delivers consistent results.
Effective decision maker; able to prioritise livestock, people and organisational issues and escalate accordingly.

Key Responsibilities

All aspects of Breeding Unit management.
Herd health planning with the Company vet, implementing agreed preventative health, vaccination, treatment and medicine use protocols, and maintain complete records.
Forming and implementing agreed production policies, monitoring performance against targets and participating in production meetings. Running weekly team meeting to plan unit organisation, identify problem areas and look for continual improvement.
Organise pig movements off farm, ensuring weaners loaded to suit penning arrangements; liaising with Senior Pig Manager, Finishing Manager and Lincolnshire Pork Administrator.
Record keeping weekly performance data, stock counts and monthly reconciliations.
Development of annual budget and management of resources within budgetary constraints.
Compliance: ensuring breeding unit is compliant with Red Tractor requirements and welfare code of practice. The facilitation of annual Red Tractor and customer audits.
Feed; ordering feed for the site in line with feed programme and weight of pigs, managing bin stocks and hygiene and administering trial programmes on farm.
Monthly vets and sundries ordering via Lincolnshire Pork Administrator.
Maintenance: site, biosecurity and machinery to be maintained, and necessary works to be carried out or arranged with contractors as appropriate.
Staff management including organising work routines, weekend cover, alarm calls, holidays. Reporting any staff issues.
Liaison with Arable Manager/ Director for straw, slurry and FYM removal, machinery maintenance.
Responsible for the overall health and safety of the unit.
Contribution to pig strategy; attendance at manager’s meetings and input into investment planning for the breeding herd.
