Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Painter/Decorator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for applying paint, varnishes, and decorative finishes to various surfaces, ensuring high-quality workmanship across residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This role offers an opportunity to work on diverse projects, utilise a range of techniques, and contribute to the visual transformation of spaces. The position is fully paid and suitable for individuals with a passion for craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling holes, and applying primers to ensure optimal adhesion of paints or finishes.
Apply paints, varnishes, stains, wallpaper, and other decorative coatings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, or specialised tools.
Interpret technical drawings and specifications to achieve desired aesthetic effects.
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and maintains a clean and organised work environment.
Collaborate with clients and project managers to select appropriate colours and finishes that meet project requirements.
Undertake minor carpentry tasks such as repairing or fitting skirting boards, architraves, or other decorative mouldings as needed.
Assist with surface preparation for specialised coatings in roofing or masonry projects when required.
Maintain tools and equipment in good condition; operate hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
Complete projects within specified timelines while maintaining high standards of quality.

Requirements

Proven experience in construction painting, decorating, or related trades such as carpentry, roofing, masonry, or plumbing is highly desirable.
Knowledge of electrical systems or welding is advantageous but not essential.
Proficiency in using hand tools (e.g., brushes, scrapers) and power tools (e.g., spray guns, sanders).
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
Strong organisational skills with an organised approach to work tasks.
Physical fitness to perform manual labour including lifting materials and working at heights when necessary.
Good colour perception and attention to detail to achieve precise finishes.
Relevant qualifications or certifications in decorating or related trades are preferred but not mandatory.
