Full job description

Job Overview:

Recruiting on behalf of an amazing provider seeking a dedicated Deputy Manager to join their Residential Children's Home in Devizes, Wiltshire.

The role will be ideal for a candidate who is already in a position such as a senior support worker/team leader or already a current deputy manager.

The successful candidate will play a key role and work alongside the RM to lead the homes daily operations.

Working with Young people with EBD, learning disabilities and history of trauma.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Deputy Manager, you will:

Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership and operation of the home.
Help create a safe, warm, nurturing and non-stigmatised environment for children and young people.
Provide visible leadership to the staff team, modelling high standards of care, professionalism and safeguarding practice.
Support the implementation and review of placement plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans, health plans and education support plans.
Ensure young people’s views, wishes and feelings are actively sought, listened to and reflected in care planning.
Promote positive relationships, emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence and personal development.
Support young people to access education, community activities, hobbies, health appointments and family time in line with their plans.
Help staff use a trauma-informed, child-centred and reflective approach.
Provide supervision, guidance, coaching and support to staff.
Support induction, training, probation and professional development across the team.
Monitor the quality of daily records, key work, incident reports and care documentation.
Support compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, Ofsted expectations
Assist with Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 preparation, audits, quality assurance and action planning.
Support safeguarding practice, professional escalation and multi-agency working.
Work collaboratively with social workers, families, education providers, health professionals, therapists, independent visitors and other agencies.
Contribute to rota planning, staff deployment and safe staffing arrangements.
Participate in the home’s on-call arrangements.
Deputise for the Registered Manager when required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is calm, resilient, organised and child-focused. You will need to be confident in leading staff, supporting young people with complex needs and maintaining high standards in a regulated children’s home.

You will understand that good residential care is built through relationships, consistency, boundaries, warmth and strong leadership. You will be able to support staff through challenging situations while keeping the needs, safety and dignity of children at the centre of decision-making.

You will need:

Experience in children’s residential care.
Experience in a senior, supervisory or leadership role.
Strong safeguarding knowledge.
Good understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
Confidence supporting young people with emotional, behavioural, attachment, trauma-related or neurodevelopmental needs.
Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff.
Good written communication skills and confidence with recording, reporting and care documentation.
Ability to work professionally with placing authorities, social workers, families and external professionals.
A reflective and trauma-informed approach to practice.
A commitment to children’s rights, advocacy, equality, diversity and anti-discriminatory practice.
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, bank holidays and participate in on-call duties.
A full UK Driving Licence.

Qualifications

Essential:

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People, or equivalent.

Desirable:

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to work towards this.
Safeguarding, medication, mental health, PBS, trauma-informed practice or leadership training.
