Full job description

Burton Addiction and O'Connor Centres is an award-winning organisation providing specialist support to individuals experiencing drug and alcohol problems. We deliver a comprehensive range of services, including medically supervised detoxification, residential rehabilitation, recovery housing, social enterprises, and community-based therapeutic programmes.

The Opportunity

Based in Burton upon Trent, we are seeking a Residential Support Worker to provide safe, effective, compassionate and person-centred care to residents accessing a structured residential detoxification and rehabilitation programme for substance misuse. Working as part of a team on a day and night rota the Residential Support Worker is responsible for promoting recovery, protecting people's safety and wellbeing, and ensuring support is delivered in accordance with the CQC assessment framework.

Key Responsibilities:

Person Centred Care

Build positive, professional and supportive relationships with residents.
Treat every resident with dignity, kindness, compassion and respect.
Deliver care and support reflecting each individual's strengths, preferences, culture, beliefs and recovery goals.
Promote independence whilst recognising individual support needs.
Support residents to make informed choices about their recovery wherever possible.

Safe Care and Treatment

Complete, review and update individual risk assessments.
Develop and review person-centred care plans.
Recognise deterioration or changes in presentation and escalate concerns promptly.
Administer non-Controlled Drug medication safely in accordance with organisational policies and competency requirements.
Facilitate drug screening and breath alcohol testing.
Encourage residents to actively participate in their treatment programme and care planning

Safeguarding

Safeguard adults and children from abuse, neglect and exploitation
Recognise indicators of abuse and poor practice

Collaborative Working

Work collaboratively with internal teams
Liaise effectively with external agencies including Probation, social care, housing providers, community drug services, mental health teams and primary care services

Health and Safety

Comply with infection prevention and control procedures, medicines safety, moving and handling guidance, fire safety, incident reporting and risk management
Maintain a clean, safe and therapeutic residential environment

Governance and Record Keeping

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and professional records
complete daily reports and handovers
Document any incidents, safeguarding concerns and clinical observations accurately
Contribue to audits and quality improvement activities

Experience

Do you have:

Experience in health, social care, mental health or substance misuse services.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to complete accurate records.
Commitment to person-centred care.
Willingness to work rotational day/night shifts.
The ability to work within policies, procedures and delegated responsibilities.
Basic understanding of Microsoft packages such as Word and Excel
Experience maintaining accurate written records
Hold the Care Certificate or Level 2/3 Health & Social Care.
Knowledge of CQC Fundamental Standards.
