Assistant Manager – Been Coffee, Long Eaton

5 days per week, minimum 35 hours
Working most weekends, often both Saturday and Sunday
Previous coffee shop experience is essential
Up to 4 weeks of initial training at our Willington HQ before the Long Eaton shop opens

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to help lead the team at our new independent, family-run coffee shop in Long Eaton.

Before the new shop opens, you will complete up to four weeks of training at our existing shop and HQ at Derby & Burton Services near Willington. This will give you practical experience of how Been Coffee operates, our standards and the responsibilities of the role.

Been Coffee is a busy, fast-growing business, so we need someone who can remain calm under pressure, respond quickly to the needs of the shop and confidently support and direct a team.

The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Manager as their main source of support. You will help with the day-to-day running of the shop, contribute to its continued improvement and take responsibility when the Manager is away.

We are looking for someone who can be a positive but strong role model, adapting their approach when needed while remaining constructive and professional.

Requirements

Previous coffee shop experience is essential
Previous experience supervising, managing or developing a team is strongly preferred
Confident preparing and serving barista-quality coffee
Able to work at least 35 hours across 5 days each week
Available to work most weekends, often including both Saturday and Sunday
Able to work bank holidays, Easter and other busy holiday periods
Able to complete up to four weeks of initial training at our Willington HQ before the Long Eaton shop opens
Able to reliably travel to Derby & Burton Services near Willington, DE65 6DX, during the initial training period
Able to reliably travel to our new shop at Unit 1, Cranfleet Way, Long Eaton, Nottingham, NG10 3RJ
Willing to act as a point of contact for occasional events that finish later than our usual opening hours
Strong communication, organisation and customer-service skills
Able to remain calm, make decisions and lead by example during busy periods
Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback

Responsibilities

Work closely with the Manager to support the smooth day-to-day running of the shop
Take responsibility for the shop and “hold the fort” when the Manager is absent
Lead shifts and provide clear, positive direction to the team
Support the wellbeing, training and development of team members
Help train new starters and ensure they meet Been Coffee’s standards
Deal with smaller staff or operational issues before they escalate
Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, food and other beverages
Maintain excellent standards of customer service, cleanliness and organisation
Help manage stock levels, stock records and ordering processes
Ensure daily checks, diaries and operational paperwork are completed accurately
Support the Manager in maintaining food-safety and company standards
Help create a positive, supportive and enjoyable working environment
Contribute ideas and improvements that support the long-term success of the shop
