An exciting opportunity has become available to work with The Cheshire East Autism Team (CEAT) as a specialist support teacher for Autism. This position will be a permanent role starting in September 2026. We are seeking to fill three positions i.e. two full time teachers and one part-time (0.8) teacher.
About the role:
CEAT is a multi-disciplinary team whose remit is to support Cheshire East schools to successfully include autistic children and young people. We will be an integral part of Cheshire East’s Locality model and the Government’s EAH (Experts at Hand Initiative). Each CEAT Specialist Teacher will work with one of four localities alongside the Educational Psychology Service and other specialist services resulting in a rich working environment where knowledge and understanding between professionals is shared and there are opportunities for research and development.
Your role would be to support the development of inclusive practice for autism across our Cheshire East Schools. This is an exciting and ambitious challenge. The goal is to create truly inclusive schools where neurodivergence is celebrated and autistic children and young people don’t just cope, they thrive.
To this end, we operate a three-tier system of support described briefly as follows:
Universal
Training - Ensuring that teachers and support staff in schools have the confidence and skills to successfully include autistic children and young people is key. CEAT are an NEN (Neuroinclusive Education Network) training hub so you would be delivering their high-quality programme across all three education phases. Alongside this, you will have the opportunity to participate in the development and delivery of bespoke training packages for schools.
You would deliver early intervention and prevention programmes designed to identify and support schools to remove barriers for cyp before they become significant.
Targeted
You would run group consultations providing professional advice and resources to schools. You would facilitate these sessions creating a forum for the productive sharing of good practice and development of key skills.
You would work with School Senior Leadership Teams to embed the principles of Good Autism Practice.
You would provide guidance and support for creating autism inclusive classroom environments and teaching.
Specialist
You would participate in Locality SEND Forums working with other specialist services to identify the appropriate services and support for individual children whose needs are complex.
You would undertake school visits to observe and assess complex autistic students and provide professional reports and recommendations.
Across all three tiers you would contribute to the development of improved joint working between educational professionals and those from partner agencies.

You will have
- Qualified Teacher Status and experience of working with children and young people with autistic spectrum condition (ASC) in educational settings.
- A passion for inclusion and a view that autism is a difference and not a deficit.
- A high level of understanding of autism and strong knowledge of evidence-based strategies for supporting autistic children and young people in educational settings.
- An ability to engage with and motivate others with empathy and enthusiasm.
- The confidence and skills to effectively provide challenge as well as support to our schools in order to ensure the best outcomes for autistic students.
- The skills to build positive relationships with young people and ensure that their voice is heard.
- Experience of delivering training to a range of delegates.
- The ability to work as part of a team and to engage in multi-agency working.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work flexibly and adaptively.
