Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to support our fact-paced kitchen team in delivering high-quality meals (up to 200 meals a day) and maintaining a clean, organised kitchen environment. The successful candidate will play a vital part in ensuring smooth kitchen operations and exceptional service standards. This role will also support the wider school team with general cleaning duties across the site.

Responsibilities

Assist with meal preparation and food assembly
Maintain cleanliness of work surfaces, utensils, and kitchen equipment in accordance with food safety standards
Help with basic cooking tasks, including chopping, mixing, and portioning ingredients
Ensure proper storage of ingredients and supplies to prevent spoilage or contamination
Support staff and pupils during lunch sittings, including helping to clear after service
Follow health and safety protocols diligently to uphold a safe working environment
Assist with inventory management by organising stock and notifying management of low supplies

Skills

Previous experience in catering in a school environment is desirable
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene
Proficiency in meal preparation and food handling techniques
Ability to work efficiently within a busy kitchen setting
Good organisational skills with attention to detail
Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Basic cooking skills; experience with food preparation and serving is advantageous
Flexibility to adapt to various tasks within the kitchen environment
