HGV Driver (Class 1) – Timber & Log Transport

Location: Norwich
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £50,000, dependent on experience

Start date: July 26

About Us

We are a growing fencing and timber sawmill business seeking a reliable, motivated, and professional HGV Class 1 Driver to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of a successful family-run company.

The Role

This is a varied and rewarding position involving the delivery of sawn timber, fencing products, and related materials to customers, as well as the collection of timber logs and raw materials from suppliers and woodland sites for transport back to our sawmill.

The successful candidate will operate our HGV flatbed crane trailer safely and professionally, represent the company positively to customers and suppliers, and ensure all loads are transported securely and in compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver sawn timber, fencing materials, and related products to customers across the region.
Collect timber logs and raw materials from suppliers and woodland sites for transport back to the sawmill.
Operate a flatbed crane trailer safely and efficiently.
Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and maintain vehicle cleanliness.
Secure loads in accordance with transport legislation and company procedures.
Complete delivery paperwork and transport records accurately.
Comply with Driver Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and Health & Safety policies.
Provide excellent customer service when interacting with customers and suppliers.

Requirements

Essential

Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) Licence.
Valid Driver CPC qualification.
Digital Tachograph Card.
Experience operating flatbed vehicles.
Strong knowledge of load-securing procedures.
Crane operating experience.
Ability to work independently with a positive and proactive attitude.

Desirable

Experience within the timber, forestry, agricultural, or construction sectors.

Working Hours

Based on 50+ hours per week.
Regular overnight stays ("nights out") will be required.
