Retail Sales Assistant Opportunity in Manchester

If you enjoy fashion, working with people and helping customers find products that genuinely suit them, this Retail Sales Assistant role offers the chance to work with a range of high end clothing, footwear and accessories while developing specialist customer service and personal shopping skills.

We are recruiting a full time Retail Sales Assistant to join a Manchester based retail team. You will work across men's and women's fashion, shoes and accessories, helping customers choose the right products while contributing to sales targets and the overall customer experience. Alongside £13.95 per hour, you will receive personal shopper training, a 30% employee discount and the opportunity to earn monthly bonuses when sales targets are achieved.

This could suit someone with previous retail or fashion experience, as well as someone coming from hospitality, customer service or another people focused environment who wants to build a career within retail.

About the Role

As a Retail Sales Assistant, you will be one of the main points of contact for customers visiting the store.

The role combines customer service, product knowledge and retail sales. Rather than simply directing customers towards products, you will learn how to understand individual preferences, recommend suitable combinations and provide a more personalised shopping experience.

You will receive training in personal shopping techniques, including understanding customer style preferences, suggesting complementary products and creating complete clothing and accessory combinations.

With customers from across Manchester and the wider Greater Manchester area, the store can be busy and varied, so we are looking for someone who enjoys meeting different people and can maintain a friendly, professional approach throughout the day.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

Welcoming customers into the store and providing friendly, attentive service
Understanding individual customer needs, preferences and budgets before recommending suitable products
Advising customers across men's and women's clothing, footwear and accessories
Developing detailed product knowledge across the brands and collections available in store
Using personal shopper techniques to help customers build outfits and select complementary products
Providing information on sizing, fit, materials, product features and available options
Supporting customers throughout their purchase and answering product or after sales queries
Working towards individual and team sales targets while maintaining a customer focused approach
Processing purchases, returns and exchanges accurately through the point of sale system
Supporting new product launches, promotions and seasonal collections
Replenishing stock and helping ensure popular sizes and products remain available
Maintaining organised, attractive displays and high presentation standards across the shop floor
Working closely with colleagues to keep the store running efficiently during busy periods

What We're Looking For

Previous retail experience is useful, but it is not the only thing we consider.

We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate:

Strong communication and natural people skills
A genuine interest in fashion, clothing, footwear or accessories
The ability to listen carefully and understand what a customer is looking for
A professional and approachable manner
Good attention to detail and presentation
An interest in learning about different products, brands and collections
Reliability and the ability to work consistently within a full time role
A positive approach to sales targets and performance goals
The ability to work independently while contributing to the wider store team

Experience within retail, fashion, hospitality, customer service or another customer facing environment would be beneficial, although training will be provided.

Training and Development

You will receive structured training when joining the team, covering product knowledge, customer service, retail sales and store procedures.

A key part of your development will be personal shopper training. This will help you build the skills needed to offer more individual recommendations, understand customer preferences and create a shopping experience that feels personal rather than transactional.

As your product knowledge develops, you will become familiar with a broad selection of high end brands across men's and women's fashion, footwear and accessories.

The Working Environment

The store places strong emphasis on customer experience, product knowledge and creating an environment where customers feel comfortable asking for advice.

You will work alongside colleagues who share responsibility for keeping the shop floor welcoming, organised and commercially effective. Managers are available to provide guidance, coaching and support, particularly while you are learning new product ranges and developing your sales approach.

Performance matters, but providing customers with appropriate recommendations and a positive experience remains central to the role.
