Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

An opportunity has arisen for Band 2’s Health Care Support Workers within our Orthopaedic Elective/Trauma wards in K North IRH

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated HCSW with effective communication skills to join our friendly team. In return we offer on-going learning opportunities to support your learning and development.

You will be required to assist us in delivering a high standard of nursing care to a cohort group of Orthopaedic patient’s for pre and post -operative scheduled surgery. These posts require candidates with problem solving skills and good listening skills and a compassionate nature. Evidence of Orthopaedic experience would be advantageous or any care setting.

We support a multi-disciplinary approach which includes nursing staff, consultants, and extended scope practitioners.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Location based in Inverclyde Royal Hospital
Rotational shift pattern
One full-time post (36 hours) and one part-time post (18.7 hours) are available
Please note that the service would accept a variation of hours
Both posts are permanent contracts
Candidates must outline their preference in their application
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours

Key responsibilities:

Assists with the nursing care of the patient under the supervision of a trained nurse. This will include all basic care including the reception, admission, transfer and discharge of the patient according to procedure.
Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
Observes and reports any change in the condition of the patient and communicates this verbally to the nurse in charge.
Assists the patient unable to self care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
Carries out and assists with minor investigatory procedures eg : Urinalysis, Faecal Occult Blood testing and Urine collections as required. Reports all findings to the trained nurse
Participates and assists in the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary eg: fluid charts, PUDRA charts and also files documents appropriately when required.
Is responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines and reports any defects and areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
Maintains stock of adequate supplies of central and clinical stores excluding medicines.
Assists with the safe custody of patient’s personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy
To comply with all Health and Safety Legislation and policies with particular regard To COSHH,.Fire, Infection Control and Manual Handling.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
