Senior Information Governance Officer (Ref: 253000)

Information Governance Team

£43,231 - £52,679 (Band 6)

Full-time (36 hours per week)

Fixed-term contract/secondment until 30 June 2027

Edinburgh/Glasgow - hybrid working will apply for the foreseeable future

Who we are

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is the national health board responsible for driving improvement in the safety and quality of health and social care for people across Scotland. Our purpose is to enable the people of Scotland to experience the best quality health and social care.

What we are doing

We are investing in the capacity needed to deliver secure, resilient and sustainable digital services. This includes supporting the transition to SharePoint Online, improving information and records management practice, strengthening information governance assurance and helping colleagues realise the benefits of Microsoft 365 in a safe and well-governed way.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Information Governance Officer to join a small, supportive and highly skilled IG team. You will provide senior-level advice and practical support across data protection, FOI, records management, information risk, assurance and digital change.

We are looking for someone who can bring practical information governance expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to a busy corporate service. You will be confident working with legislation and guidance, but equally able to translate complex requirements into clear, usable advice for colleagues.

What we like to see

Senior Information Governance Officers bring a broad range of skills and experience. If you can offer some or all of the following, we would like to hear from you:

Practical experience of applying information governance, data protection, FOI, SAR, records management and information security requirements in a complex organisation.
Confidence in assessing information risks and explaining options, recommendations and controls in a way that can be understood by both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Experience of producing clear, accurate and usable documentation, including policies, procedures, guidance, reports, briefings or audit evidence.
An interest in digital transformation and the role of information governance in enabling safe adoption of tools such as Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online.
A proactive approach to identifying issues, improving processes, supporting compliance and helping colleagues make informed decisions.
The ability to work collaboratively, build effective relationships and contribute positively to a busy team environment.
Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage sensitive information appropriately.
Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to make complex legislative, technical or governance requirements clear, practical and relevant.
Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to work on your own initiative, prioritise workload and meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
