Full job description

We are looking for caring, patient and kind-hearted female Personal Assistants to join a small team supporting an amazing 18-year-old young lady, D, in her family home and local community.

This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys making a real difference. D has autism and a learning disability, and she has a fantastic personality, a great sense of fun, and loves experiencing the world in her own unique way.

About D

D is energetic, adventurous and loves to keep busy. She particularly enjoys:

Water play and sensory activities
Messy play and creative experiences
Listening to music and dancing
Watching her iPad and favourite TV programmes
Visiting parks, woodland walks and the beach during quieter times
Relaxing at home in her newly transformed sensory-friendly space after school
Like many autistic people, D may sometimes display behaviours that communicate her needs, particularly when she needs support to regulate. With the right approach, patience and understanding, you'll help her feel safe, happy and able to enjoy her day.

The Role

As one of D's Personal Assistants, you'll become an important part of a supportive team, helping her enjoy meaningful activities while promoting her independence and wellbeing.

Duties include:

Providing person-centred support with daily routines
Assisting with personal care, including dressing and showering
Supporting with meals and encouraging eating using cutlery
Joining in with sensory, water and messy play activities
Accompanying D on community outings, including parks, woodland walks and the beach
Supporting D to relax and unwind at home
Working closely with the family and other Personal Assistants to provide consistent support

Hours Available

There are multiple vacancies available, and we are happy to discuss hours that suit both you and the family's needs.

Contracts available include:

20 hours per week
16 hours per week
10 hours per week
Waking overnight shifts (up to 2 per week)

A four-week rolling rota is used and may include:

Before school or activities
After school
Weekends
Waking nights
Additional hours during school holidays
Holiday and sickness cover

Pay

£12.71 per hour
Mileage and agreed expenses paid when supporting D on community outings

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

Kind, calm and patient
Warm, friendly and softly spoken
Flexible and reliable
Physically able to keep up with D's active lifestyle
A confident communicator
Able to work well as part of a team
Happy to learn new skills and undertake training
Creative and able to think of fun sensory activities to support D's wellbeing

Desirable Experience

It would be an advantage if you have:
A full, clean driving licence and confidence driving
Experience supporting autistic people
Experience supporting people with a learning disability
Previous de-escalation or positive behaviour support training
