Looking for a fresh challenge and a role with real purpose? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Volunteering Team as a Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a diverse and rewarding role where no two days are the same.
We’re fortunate to have hundreds of volunteers supporting our force in many ways as special constables, police support volunteers and volunteer police cadets. Our volunteers collectively contribute thousands of hours to policing every year, but the impact they have is far greater than the hours they dedicate. Our volunteers bring many things to our organisation - their talent, skills, advice, experience, support, enthusiasm and more. Our Volunteering Team works across different areas of policing to provide the best possible support to our volunteers, ensuring they are fully integrated and valued by their teams.
Flexible working and/or job sharing are possible for this role. The position attracts an unsocial hours payment as there is a requirement to work evenings and weekends. Typically, this is one evening each week during term time (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and an average of one weekend day each month.
Key Responsibilities
You will provide coordination and administrative support across all our long-term volunteering roles (special constables, police support volunteers and volunteer police cadets). You will also help develop and support our short-term volunteering opportunities such as work experience and student placements.
You will need to be a motivated team player and able to manage a varied and demanding workload. Examples of the day-to-day tasks you will carry out include:
- welcoming volunteers into the force
- acting as a point of contact for volunteers, internal and external stakeholders/partners
- organising, attending and supporting events for volunteers
- interviewing and assessing volunteer and placement applicants
- managing outlook mailboxes and data within systems/spreadsheets

We are looking for an individual who understands and recognises the value of volunteering and will take pride in everything they do to support our volunteers. Previous experience of working with volunteers and/or young people would be beneficial, but this is not essential.
We will teach you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, but there are some skills and experience that we are looking for from the outset. You will need to be experienced in administration and confident in the use of all Microsoft Office programmes. You will need to be able to work independently and as part of a team with enthusiasm and commitment. Your flexible and positive approach will enable you to support the team and our volunteers whenever and wherever necessary.
Great communication skills are essential for this role and you should be comfortable engaging with a range of stakeholders/partners in various ways as this will help you to build and maintain the working relationships you will need to succeed.
Our messaging is a key part of the work we do; you will develop material on and offline to attract volunteers and promote the contribution our volunteers make to the force. A practical understanding of communication channels, particularly social media, would therefore be advantageous.

This role offers varied working hours and the option to work from home. You will be required to work one evening a week and one weekend day a month, but this is planned as far in advance as possible.
