Full job description

Yew Tree Garden Centre is a family run business based in a rural location just outside Newbury.

Job Purpose

To ensure the smooth operation of the garden centre by efficiently managing incoming stock, maintaining organized stock areas, creating engaging retail displays, and providing exceptional physical and customer service support.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Management & Receiving

Assist with unloading delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
Check incoming stock against delivery notes to ensure accuracy.
Report any damaged goods or stock discrepancies to management.
Organize and maintain the stock room for maximum efficiency and safety.
Monitor stock levels and assist with regular inventory counts.

Merchandising & Display

Move heavy and bulky stock across the garden centre safely.
Replenish shelves regularly.
Build and maintain attractive, safe, and commercial stock displays.
Ensure all products are correctly priced and clearly signed.

Customer Service & Assistance

Greet customers warmly and answer basic product inquiries.
Guide customers to specific products.
Safely load heavy items, such as compost bags and gravel, into customer vehicles.
Provide carry-out assistance for elderly or vulnerable customers.

Waste & Environmental Management

Manage the on-site recycling area by sorting cardboard, plastic, and wood.
Operate waste management equipment (e.g., balers) according to safety guidelines.
Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free warehouse and yard.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

High level of physical fitness, comfortable lifting heavy items (up to 25kg) repeatedly.
Strong team player with a willing, flexible, and hands-on attitude.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Good organizational skills with attention to detail.

Desirable

Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, or garden centre environment.
Basic knowledge of gardening products.

Working Conditions

This role involves significant physical labor, including lifting, bending, and walking.
Weekend and bank holiday work will be required on a rota basis.

This role is full time and includes working alternate weekends.
