Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to support the smooth and efficient operation of our nursery. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing daily activities, ensuring the highest standards of care and early years education, and leading a team of childcare professionals. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner with a strong background in early years education to further develop their leadership and management skills within a nurturing and child-centred environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day management of the setting, ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulatory and safeguarding standards.
Supervise, mentor, and support nursery staff, fostering a positive and professional team culture focused on delivering exceptional childcare and early education.
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of age-appropriate learning programmes in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
Ensure safeguarding and welfare requirements are consistently met, maintaining a safe, secure, and inclusive environment for all children.
Monitor children’s development and wellbeing, ensuring accurate observations, assessments, and progress tracking.
Support staff training and professional development to maintain high standards of practice across the nursery.
Promote positive behaviour management strategies and encourage children’s independence, confidence, and social development.
Maintain accurate documentation, including children’s records, staff rotas, and health and safety compliance logs.
Build and maintain effective partnerships with parents, carers, and external professionals to support each child’s individual needs.
Act as Manager in the absence of the Nursery Manager, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational standards.

Person Specification

Proven experience within a nursery or early years setting, ideally in a senior role such as Third in charge or Deputy Manager previously.
Recognised Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent.
Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
In-depth knowledge of safeguarding procedures and EYFS requirements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and approachable manner.
Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining high standards of care and compliance.
A genuine passion for supporting children’s development and creating a positive early learning environment.
