KITE College is seeking a reliable, caring and professional Casual Minibus Driver to join our transport team.
This role involves transporting learners between their home address or agreed collection point and KITE College, ensuring they travel safely, comfortably and arrive on time. You will play an important role in supporting learners to access their education and promoting a positive start and end to their college day.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement (or the appropriate category required to drive a minibus).
- Has a good driving record and a commitment to safe, responsible driving.
- Is reliable, punctual and flexible.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Can build positive relationships with young people whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
- Is calm, patient and supportive when working with learners with a range of needs.
- Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and learner wellbeing.
Previous minibus driving experience and experience supporting young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs would be advantageous but are not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport learners to and from KITE College.
- Ensure learners travel safely and are seated with seatbelts fastened before the vehicle moves.
- Support learners appropriately during journeys and help maintain a calm and respectful environment.
- Communicate effectively with the Transport Manager regarding delays, incidents, learner absences or vehicle concerns.
- Report any vehicle defects, damage or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Maintain the cleanliness, security and roadworthiness of the assigned vehicle.
- Comply with all road traffic legislation, College policies and safeguarding requirements.
- Attend mandatory training and maintain high standards of professionalism at all times.

Main purpose · The Driver will provide safe, reliable and professional transport services for learners attending KITE College, ensuring that learners are collected from their home address or an agreed meeting point and transported to college, returning them safely at the end of the day. · Drivers will support learners with a range of additional learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and comfort throughout each journey.Duties and responsibilities
Safeguarding
· Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and follow college policies Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy and Adult Protection Policy · Promote the safeguarding of all learners in the College
· Follow college policies and the staff code of behaviour.· To drive a KITE College minibus or other college vehicle safely and responsibly, transporting learners to and from college and on authorised college activities.· To ensure the safety, welfare and comfort of all learners during transportation, taking account of their individual needs.· To demonstrate patience, professionalism and sensitivity when working with young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or additional support requirements.· To promptly report any vehicle defects, damage, maintenance requirements, safety concerns or issues affecting the operation of the vehicle to the Transport Manager.· To collect and deliver learners safely between their home address or agreed collection point and KITE College, in accordance with agreed schedules and routes.· To ensure learners board and leave the vehicle safely and are supervised appropriately when required.· To ensure all passengers are seated safely, wearing seatbelts and using any required safety equipment before the vehicle moves.· To maintain accurate records as required, including mileage logs and incident reports.· To communicate promptly with the Transport Manager regarding any delays, learner absences, incidents, accidents, safeguarding concerns, vehicle defects, route changes, breakdowns or any other issues that may impact the safe and effective delivery of the transport service.· If a learner is not present at their home address or agreed collection point at the scheduled collection time, the driver must wait for up to five minutes and notify the Transport Manager before departing and continuing the route.· To develop positive and professional relationships with learners, providing appropriate encouragement, reassurance and support during journeys whilst maintaining clear professional boundaries. The Driver should promote a calm, safe and respectful environment and respond appropriately to learners' individual needs in accordance with KITE College policies and training.· To maintain excellent standards of punctuality and attendance, ensuring that all transport routes operate to the agreed schedule wherever reasonably possible. The Driver is expected to arrive promptly for duties, complete collections and drop-offs on time, and notify the Transport Manager immediately of any delays or circumstances that may affect service delivery.· To drive safely, responsibly and in full accordance with all road traffic laws, Highway Code requirements and KITE College policies. Drivers are expected to exercise due care and attention at all times and are personally responsible for any fines, penalties, endorsements or prosecutions resulting from their own driving offences, including speeding, parking violations or other breaches of traffic regulations.· The Driver must maintain a valid driving licence and immediately notify the Transport Manager of any motoring convictions, endorsements, disqualifications, medical conditions or other circumstances that may affect their ability to undertake driving duties safely and legally.· To maintain the cleanliness, security and roadworthiness of the assigned vehicle.· To comply with all road traffic legislation, vehicle regulations, college policies and insurance requirements.· To maintain confidentiality regarding learners, families and college matters at all times.· To undertake any training required by KITE College relating to transport, safeguarding, health and safety, manual handling, first aid or other relevant areas.· To support the College's values and contribute positively to the learner experience. Health & Safety· To be ever mindful of the dangers that threaten the wellbeing of learners and staff alike.· To ensure the safe operation, use and care of all college vehicles.· To follow all health and safety procedures and risk assessments relevant to the role.· To report accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards in accordance with college procedures.
· Promote the safety and wellbeing of learners.
