Advice and Guidance Deputy Manager

Location: Boldmere, Birmingham (with travel across Birmingham and surrounding areas)
Salary: £26,062.40 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Contract: Fixed Term until 31 March 2028

Are you an experienced leader with a strong understanding of welfare benefits and a passion for helping people improve their wellbeing?

Age Connects West Midlands is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Advice and Guidance Deputy Manager to support the delivery of our growing Advice, Guidance and Wellbeing Service.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines strong people management skills with experience of welfare benefits advice, information and guidance. You'll lead and support a dedicated team, coordinate projects and services, and ensure people receive the practical support they need to remain independent and improve their quality of life.

What you'll be doing

Supporting the day-to-day leadership of the Advice and Guidance Service
Supervising, mentoring and developing staff and volunteers
Managing referrals, appointments, outreach sessions and home visits
Providing advice and support around welfare benefits and entitlements, including:
Attendance Allowance
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Carer's Allowance
Pension Credit
Blue Badge applications
Monitoring performance, outcomes and contractual targets
Building strong relationships with partners, professionals and community organisations
Supporting the mobilisation and development of new projects and services
Ensuring high-quality records, reporting and compliance standards are maintained

What we're looking forEssential Experience

✔ Experience providing welfare benefits advice, information and guidance

✔ Strong working knowledge of welfare benefits and entitlements, including Attendance Allowance, PIP, DLA, Carer's Allowance and Pension Credit

✔ Experience supervising, supporting or line managing staff

✔ Experience coordinating services, projects, referrals or appointments

✔ Experience monitoring performance and achieving targets

✔ Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills

✔ Experience working within health, social care, community or voluntary sector services

✔ Strong IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records and databases

Desirable

Advice and Guidance or Welfare Benefits qualification
Leadership, Supervisory or Management qualification
Experience writing reports and analysing performance data
Knowledge of services available to older people, carers and vulnerable adults
Experience delivering community wellbeing projects
