Job description:

Café & Eatery Lead

The Stag | Cookswood, Somerset

Full-time, £13- £15 hourly rate available for the right candidate

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Café & Eatery Lead to take the lead at The Stag, our new food and drink destination at Cookswood.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for experience in how to run a great food-led operation and wants real ownership over their venue, and to build skills in the process.

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day running of The Stag - making sure the food, service, team and customer experience are consistently excellent.

The role

You’ll oversee the daily operation of the eatery, working closely with the wider Cookswood team to build The Stag into a destination people want to come back to.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing the day-to-day running of the café and eatery

* Leading, training and managing the front-of-house and kitchen team

* Overseeing food preparation and service standards

* Maintaining excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and health & safety standards

* Managing stock, ordering and minimising waste

* Supporting menu development and ensuring consistency

* Managing rotas, staffing levels and day-to-day team performance

* Monitoring costs and helping maintain strong margins

* Ensuring the venue is presented beautifully and operates smoothly

* Dealing confidently with customers and resolving issues when needed

* Working with suppliers and the wider Cookswood team

* Helping develop The Stag’s reputation and customer experience

This isn’t a chef role. We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of food and hospitality who can manage the operation, oversee the kitchen and team, maintain standards and make sure everything runs properly.

About you

You’ll ideally have:

* Previous café, restaurant, deli, bakery or food-led hospitality management experience

* Strong food knowledge and a genuine interest in good food

* A recognised Food Hygiene qualification

* Experience managing and motivating a team

* Excellent organisational skills

* Good commercial awareness, including stock, ordering and waste control

* High standards when it comes to cleanliness, presentation and service

* The confidence to lead from the front and get stuck in when needed

* A friendly, professional and customer-focused approach

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who takes ownership.

Someone who notices when something needs doing, solves problems rather than passing them on, and takes pride in creating a venue that runs brilliantly.

The opportunity

The Stag is part of the wider Cookswood development - a unique new destination in Somerset surrounded by beautiful countryside.

You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the operation from the ground up, build your team and play a key role in establishing The Stag as a destination for great food, coffee and hospitality.

Hours & pay

Full time, 40 hours a week

£13-£15 an hour dependant on experience.

There is opportunity to work additional hours where required.

We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of building something exciting, rather than simply filling a rota.
