Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the governments immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. Job description

Reporting and Offender Management Teams are responsible for the attendance and management of Immigration offenders, who, due to their circumstances are required to maintain contact with the Home Office. Contact with the reporting population can be via various formats including face to face attendance at reporting centres within the UK or at a suitable designated location.

The role will form part of the Contact Management Command team based at the Leeds Reporting Centre. The team play a key role in detaining and removing those that remain illegally in the UK, promoting a compliant environment and encouraging voluntary departure.

As an Enforcement Officer, you will conduct detentions for those who have no leave to be in the UK.

You will engage directly with the public, handling queries, reviewing bail, and signposting individuals to relevant services. You will conduct face-to-face interviews, including marriage interviews, assessing individual circumstances, and managing workflows.

You will promote voluntary return and progressing cases as key responsibilities.

You will demonstrate a high level of integrity and honesty in all professional interactions, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making. All decisions taken need to be recorded with grounds for making that decision and any other considerations. You will seek the appropriate grade sign off and this will be monitored throughout the mentoring period and will be assured periodically by Managers.

You may be required to undertake the same or a similar role within a different team or teams (where possible, at your base location or within reasonable travel distance), depending on business priorities. With appropriate training and support, this will provide opportunities to broaden both your experience and skill set.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning and assisting with the detention and removal of Immigration Offenders.
Conducting marriage Investigation work, leading on interviews and referring cases for tasking.
Conducting reporting events. Where appropriate, proactively prompting individuals towards case resolution options including meaningful voluntary departure conversations.
Conducting appropriate Intervention and Emergency Travel Documenting interviews to assist in case progression and obtaining documentation for those liable to removal from the UK.
Overseeing contact management with those who are required to report.
Conducting face to face interviews to gain further information, being able to deal appropriately with resistance and having challenging conversations. Promoting voluntary return from the UK.
Working collaboratively and develop strong working relationships across all relevant teams and stakeholders to deliver business outcomes. Being flexible and adaptive to change.
Considering and addressing safeguarding and vulnerability issues appropriately.

Working pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 33.6 hours over 4 days per week due to business requirements.

Training

You will receive full training and support to do the job. Training takes place initially in the classroom and then continues on the job with a mentor who supports you until you are fully confident in the role. Even then you are never alone; you work as part of a team where there is always someone around for advice and support. Some training may take place at other Home Office locations across the UK, and you will be expected to attend the relevant courses. Any approved travel and subsistence costs will be covered.

Essential Criteria:

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake and pass Personal Safety Training Level 2 which is renewed annually.
Ability to confidently manage complex and challenging situations, using sound judgement to achieve appropriate outcomes.
Flexible and adaptable, with a positive approach to change and shifting priorities.
Highly organised, with the ability to plan and prioritise work to meet deadlines and maintain high standards of quality.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and understand the needs of others.
Ability to take ownership of work, exercise personal responsibility and make informed decisions within agreed levels of authority.

Desirable Criteria:

Previous experience in an immigration or enforcement role.

2. Sift from 8th September 2026
