Full job description

Job Summary

We are a friendly, well-established GP practice serving approximately 9,000 patients. Although we are a relatively small team, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within a welcoming and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Act as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals, providing a welcoming, professional, and compassionate service.

Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and efficiently, dealing with enquiries or directing them to the appropriate member of the team.
Greet patients attending the practice, assist with enquiries, and ensure a positive patient experience at reception.

Work closely with practice team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the surgery.

Support the Triaging GP by undertaking the role of Triaging Assistant (TA), assisting with patient navigation and administrative tasks to facilitate efficient clinical triage.

Signpost patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional or service in line with practice protocols.

Deal with prescription enquiries, liaising with clinicians and the prescriptions team where appropriate.

Undertake general reception and administrative duties, including booking appointments, processing patient requests, and maintaining accurate patient records.

Provide chaperone support for clinical examinations and procedures in accordance with practice policy.

Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and handle sensitive information in line with GDPR and NHS guidance.

Keep the reception and waiting areas clean, tidy, organised, and welcoming for patients and visitors.

Present yourself in a professional manner at all times, maintaining a smart appearance and demonstrating a courteous, respectful, and positive attitude.

Demonstrate flexibility by supporting colleagues during busy periods and contributing to the effective running of the practice.

Use initiative to prioritise workload, solve problems, and respond to the changing needs of the practice.

Participate in training and continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills.

Assist with additional administrative duties as required, with opportunities to develop the role through responsibilities such as clinical coding, document management, and other practice administration tasks.

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Practice Manager or Partners.

Qualifications

Previous office experience is preferred but not required; strong organizational skills are essential
Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach towards clients
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Eagerness to learn about healthcare systems, social services, and community resources
Basic proficiency with office software such as Microsoft Office
