Full job description

If you have extensive leadership experience within children’s homes, a strong commitment to helping children thrive, and a passion for supporting homes to continually improve the quality of care they provide, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

This rewarding role also offers an excellent work-life balance, making it perfect for those seeking meaningful and flexible work .

We are looking to expand our established team , covering the areas in and around Luton and Milton Keynes. We are looking for people to join us on a self-employed basis initially covering 2-4 visits with scope to increase once you are established in the role.

We carefully match your experience and skills to the individual needs of the homes and young people you will support. Your professional insight is highly valued — we take your feedback seriously and work collaboratively to build positive, productive relationships with the homes you visit, ensuring your role has meaningful impact.

What you’ll do
Once allocated to a home, you will carry out monthly visits and produce reflective reports that recognise achievements, celebrate progress, and identify areas for development. Working independently, you will observe practice, speak with staff, external professionals, and, most importantly, the young people themselves, to assess whether the home is effectively safeguarding children and promoting positive outcomes and wellbeing.

How we’ll support you
You won’t be on your own — our team is available for ongoing support and guidance, and we’ll provide regular feedback and learning points to help you develop in the role.

Reporting
You will produce clear, objective reports that accurately reflect your findings and provide a detailed, thoughtful evaluation of the children’s lived experiences. You will also offer constructive suggestions and recommendations to support homes in meeting regulatory requirements and continuously developing and improving their practice.

Experience

To thrive in this role, you will bring strong professional knowledge and experience of Ofsted regulations, the ability to build positive rapport with a wide range of people, and a confident, robust understanding of safeguarding practices and responsibilities.

We’re looking for someone who is:

Meticulous and reliable
An excellent communicator
Confident in writing clear, high-quality reports
Comfortable working to deadlines

As a Regulation 44 Visitor with Changing Outcomes, you’ll be able to build trust with young people and develop a supportive, “critical friend” relationship with providers — offering both challenge and encouragement where needed.

Experience that’s essential:

Successfully managing a residential children’s home and holding an Ofsted registration for a minimum of two years

Practical requirements:

Access to a car
A full UK driving licence
