Full job description

Role Title: Project Manager – TdF Grand Depart 2027
Salary: £44,000 per annum
Contract: Fixed Term, immediate start available until August 2027
Location: National Cycling Centre, Manchester (hybrid working available: 3 days per week in the office)
Start Date: Immediate

About British Cycling

In 2027 the UK will host the Grand Depart of both the Tour De France and the Tour De France Femmes avec Zwift. This will be the first time in history that both races have departed from the same country, outside of France. A landmark social impact programme will also be delivered across the UK, tackling inactivity, improving mental wellbeing, boosting economic growth and supporting communities to thrive.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) – Grand Depart GB 2027 – will maintain oversight of the delivery of the events and will manage public funding on behalf of DCMS, Scottish Government, Welsh Government and UK Sport.

The SPV is a Joint Venture between UKEL (a new sports events company) and British Cycling.

British Cycling will deliver the operational and business function, social impact and volunteer programmes along with all consumer facing functions, on behalf of partners.

We are now recruiting a highly organised and proactive Project Manager to support the planning, coordination and delivery.

Working as part of the Programme Management Office, you will help ensure that functional areas are well planned, delivery milestones are clearly understood, risks are actively managed and hosts remain on track. You will play a key role in connecting operational planning with Host Local Authority assurance, supporting monthly reporting to partners and help ensure the wider programme maintains pace, structure and visibility.

This is a hands-on project management role in a complex, fast-moving and high-profile environment. You will work closely with internal teams, delivery partners and programme leadership to track progress, manage risks and dependencies, support planning routines and ensure that key information is clearly reported through the project’s governance structure.

You will use Monday.com as the core project management tool, helping to maintain plans, track actions, monitor risks, support reporting and provide a clear view of delivery progress across the programme.

This is an opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of one of the most significant sporting events ever hosted in the UK, helping bring structure, clarity and momentum to a project with national profile and lasting impact.

What will you be doing?

Supporting functional areas to develop, maintain and deliver clear project plans, milestones and timelines.
Helping teams stay on track and deliver against agreed programme milestones.
Coordinating monthly reporting to the Board on project delivery, host assurance, risk and the balanced scorecard.
Ensuring an effective link between operational planning and host readiness.
Working with internal teams to identify, manage and escalate risks, issues and dependencies.
Supporting Host Local Authority assurance processes and helping monitor whether Host Local Authorities are progressing against agreed requirements.
Maintaining project information, action logs, risk registers, milestone trackers and reporting materials.
Helping create clear and consistent programme planning and reporting routines.
Supporting cross-functional coordination across operations, volunteering, marketing, social impact, stakeholder engagement and delivery teams.
Using Monday.com to support workflow management, milestone tracking, reporting and project visibility.
Supporting programme governance by ensuring key actions, decisions, risks and dependencies are recorded and followed through.
Working closely with colleagues responsible for supplier and contract management to ensure supplier-related milestones, risks and dependencies are visible within wider programme planning.

What we’re looking for:

Project management experience in complex programmes, major events, operational delivery, and multi-stakeholder environments.
Experience supporting teams to plan activity, manage milestones and deliver against deadlines.
Skilled in governance reporting, providing clear updates to boards and senior stakeholders.
Strong expertise in risk, issue, and dependency management.
Highly organised, able to balance competing priorities in fast-paced, evolving environments.
Experience supporting major event delivery, operational readiness, and stakeholder coordination.
Detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive, with strong problem-solving capabilities and pragmatism.
Collaborative and relationship-focused, building trust and influencing effectively at all levels.
Adaptable, resilient, and calm under pressure, with a positive approach to innovation.
Familiarity with Monday.com or similar project management tools is desirable.
