Job description

We have an exciting opportunity at our Openshaw Campus to join us as a Library Support Officer on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week), term-time only basis (39 weeks).

As a Library Support Officer, you will provide outstanding support to students to enable them to access high quality resources and equip them with the ability to develop their study and academic skills to support lifelong learning and achieve their goals.

Responsible for ensuring a vibrant, welcoming, and safe library space for all users of the service, whether physical or online, which is conducive to learning and independent study. Project a positive and welcoming image while consistently delivering excellent customer service and engage proactively with students and staff (at all levels).

Responsible for the creation and delivery of study skills sessions, both digital and in-person models in a blended learning environment.

Establish effective working relationships with curriculum colleagues and students to enable full utilisation of the library service.

Initiate and develop projects to deliver user focussed, inclusive and accessible services that engage with our student community and work on library initiatives with cross-site groups.

Our Openshaw campus is a vibrant, modern hub of learning, equipped with outstanding, industry-standard facilities designed to inspire both staff and students. Located just outside Manchester city centre, the campus offers a wide range of vocational and academic courses, with specialist spaces for areas such as construction, engineering, health, and digital.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Level 2 English & Maths
Level 3 qualification
Training/Learning support qualification or equivalent experience
Demonstrate significant experience of working successfully with groups of young people to support, lead and motivate them. Taking effective actions to positively manage behaviour.
Proactive, innovative and energetic approach to managing and supporting a diverse range of students.
Extensive customer facing work and provision of excellent service to internal or external customers
Experience of managing a busy and diverse workload; prioritising and responding to urgent situations effectively.
Ability to use a variety of software including Microsoft Office; a range of IT Systems and databases; and be able to adapt to new technology.
Confident to support people of all ages and with diverse needs.
Ability to plan and effectively organise resources and time to deliver personal and service objectives.
Create new ideas and perspectives to ensure continuous improvement.
Proven effective communication with young people and colleagues, evidencing the ability to influence positive and mutually beneficial changes and outcomes.
