Project Operations Manager
We're looking for someone who enjoys bringing structure, control and coordination to complex projects. Someone who can keep all the moving parts aligned while balancing programme, resources, commercial performance, compliance and client expectations.
Working closely with the Delivery Manager, you'll ensure projects are properly planned, resourced, commercially managed and fully supported from start to finish. While they delivery focus on delivering the work in the field, you'll focus on keeping the project under control behind the scenes.
If spreadsheets, schedules, forecasts and solving logistical puzzles are your thing, you'll enjoy this role.
What you'll be doing
- Owning project programmes and milestones across multiple live projects.
- Monitoring progress and implementing recovery plans when projects risk falling behind.
- Managing project budgets, variations and commercial performance.
- Planning and allocating labour, plant, subcontractors and other resources.
- Leading, coaching and developing the Project Coordinator and Project Administrator, providing clear direction, support and accountability to ensure projects are delivered effectively.
- Managing workload, priorities and performance across the project support team, ensuring resources are aligned to business and project needs.
- Leading communication with clients and key stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Managing procurement activities and ensuring materials and services are available when needed.
- Maintaining accurate project forecasts covering programme, resources and costs.
- Identifying risks early and implementing practical mitigation plans.
- Ensuring project documentation, reporting and compliance requirements are maintained.
- Working closely with the Delivery Manager to ensure projects remain organised, controlled and moving forward.
A bit about you
- You can keep an eye on the bigger picture without losing sight of important details.
- You're commercially aware and understand the relationship between programme, cost and profitability.
- You're an experienced people manager who enjoys developing others, creating accountability and helping individuals perform at their best.
- You have experience leading project support, coordination or administrative teams and are confident balancing operational delivery with people leadership responsibilities.
- You're comfortable setting priorities, delegating work and providing clear guidance while maintaining a positive and collaborative team culture.
- You're confident managing multiple priorities and making decisions when plans need to change.
- You build strong relationships and communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and colleagues alike.
- You're naturally proactive and prefer staying ahead of problems rather than reacting to them.
- You're solutions-focused and enjoy working through challenges when they arise.
- You have experience in project management, operations, construction, engineering, infrastructure or a similarly fast-paced environment.
What success looks like in this role
At its simplest, success means projects are planned, controlled and commercially successful.
You'll know you're succeeding when:
- Projects are progressing as planned because resources, materials and activities have been coordinated effectively.
- Clients feel informed, supported and confident in the service they're receiving.
- Risks are identified early and managed before they become larger issues.
- Budgets, costs and variations are under control and margins are protected.
- Forecasts and reporting are accurate, timely and trusted.
- Projects remain compliant and audit ready.
- The field teams have everything they need to deliver successfully meaning projects stay organised, profitable and moving forward.
