(Sport, Music & Creative Arts Specialisms)

Pay: £28, 000 per annum
Hours: Flexible / Freelance basis
Location: Across various Dizzy Heights youth provisions and school-based projects

Are you passionate about using your skills to positively influence young people?
Can your talent be the bridge that builds trust, confidence, and resilience?

Dizzy Heights is looking for experienced Freelance Youth Mentors with strong specialisms in sport, music, creative arts, or other positive engagement pathways. This role goes beyond delivering an activity — it’s about building meaningful relationships and working in a trauma-informed, consistent, and emotionally intelligent way.

Sport-Based Mentors

(Such as football, boxing, gym/fitness, basketball, martial arts, athletics)

You will:

Use sport as a structured outlet to teach discipline, teamwork, and emotional regulation
Support young people with managing emotions, building confidence, and developing resilience through physical activity
Create safe spaces where healthy competition and self-belief can grow
Model positive leadership and strong character

Music-Based Mentors

(Such as music production, DJing, songwriting, rap, spoken word, drumming)

You will:

Use music as a tool for self-expression and storytelling
Help young people explore identity, emotions, and lived experiences creatively
Support confidence-building through performance and skill development
Provide a constructive outlet for processing difficult experiences

Creative Arts Mentors

(Such as art, photography, videography, graphic design, fashion, dance, drama)

You will:

Encourage creativity as an empowering and therapeutic process
Support young people to express thoughts and emotions in safe, structured ways
Build patience, focus, and self-esteem through creative achievement
Help young people recognise their talents as strengths and possible future pathways

Core Role Expectations (All Specialisms)

Deliver consistent 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions
Build trusted, professional relationships with clear boundaries
Work in a trauma-informed, person-centred way, recognising behaviour as communication
Support young people to identify goals, strengths, and positive coping strategies
Provide feedback and brief progress updates where required
Act as a reliable, positive role model within the community

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking practitioners who are:

Experienced – Proven experience working directly with young people in schools, youth settings, or community environments
Trauma-Informed in Practice – An understanding of how adverse experiences can impact behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement, and the ability to respond with consistency, empathy, and clear boundaries
Relationship-Focused – Someone who prioritises trust-building and recognises that connection comes before correction
Skilled in Your Specialism – Confident in delivering structured, purposeful sessions using your chosen discipline as a vehicle for engagement and growth
Creative and Adaptable – Able to adjust sessions to meet individual needs and engage young people who may initially be reluctant or disengaged
Emotionally Intelligent and Professional – Maintains appropriate boundaries and represents Dizzy Heights positively at all times
Reliable and Self-Motivated – Organised, punctual, and able to work independently in a freelance capacity
Mobile Across the City – Must hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to travel to different delivery locations
Safe to Work with Young People – Must be willing to undergo and pass an Enhanced DBS check
