Full job description

Are you passionate about precision, quality, and craftsmanship? We’re looking for a detail-driven individual to play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of our woven fabrics right at the heart of production. As a key member of the weaving department, you’ll be the first line of defence against faults — ensuring every piece that leaves the loom meets our highest standards. If you take pride in doing things right the first time, have an eye for detail, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, this role offers an exciting opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute to a culture of excellence.

Purpose

To ensure the highest quality of woven fabric by proactively inspecting cloth at the earliest stage within the weaving department. This role is critical in identifying faults before they progress through the mill, thereby reducing rework, improving product quality, and lowering operational costs. The role requires confident decision-making to halt production, when necessary, stand by quality standards and work collaboratively with weaving teams to resolve issues promptly and effectively. This role acts as a key quality gatekeeper between weaving and downstream processing in order to minimise defect occurrence and corrective work required (“mending”).

Key Responsibilities:

· · Collaborate with Quality and Weaving teams to conduct in-process checks and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Conduct early-stage inspection of all woven fabric (“pieces”) to detect structural or yarn-related faults before they move to the next production stage.

· Identify, categorise, and document weaving faults (e.g. broken picks, missing ends, incorrect weave) and yarn issues (e.g. shade variation, contamination, slubs).

· Make confident decisions to pause weaving and/ or escalate issues when fabric does not meet quality standards, ensuring faults are not passed downstream.

· Stand by quality decisions and work constructively with Weavers, Tuners, and Supervisors to help investigate root causes and implement corrective actions.

· Verify and sign off new loom setups (“passing standard”) to ensure correct weave structure and appearance before full production begins.

· Prioritise inspection of “first pieces” from new jobs to confirm weaving quality and initiate prompt feedback loops.

· Collaborate with Quality and Weaving teams to conduct in-process checks and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Maintain accurate defect records and contribute to trend analysis to support root cause investigations and quality improvement projects.

General Responsibilities:

· Adhere to standard operating procedures and work instructions provided for all departments and workstations, including data input and printing piece tickets on MRP system (SAP).

Maintain effective written and verbal communication with all colleagues and departments.
Ensure a safe working environment following all relevant procedures and maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.

· Comply with health and safety requirements including wearing role specific PPE to include ear protection and safety boots, and mask when appropriate

Embrace own cross-skilling opportunities and assist with training of colleagues as and when required to maintain flexibility across departments.

· Proactive approach to identifying root causes of faults and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

· IT literacy, including use of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems (e.g. SAP) for data entry and reporting.

· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly report findings and escalate issues.

· Good literacy and numeracy, supporting accurate documentation and analysis of defect trends.

· Excellent timekeeping and reliability, ensuring timely inspection and minimal disruption to production flow.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also contributing positively to a team environment.
