Permanent, Part Time 18.5 hours per week

We are looking for an individual to join the Policy Committee Team.

This exciting role supports the Council’s decision making in a committee system model of governance, which started in May 2024, and sits within the corporate centre of the organisation.

The post will provide advice and support to elected members and senior officers to enable effective, inclusive, and outcome-driven Policy Committees to undertake effective decision making in accordance with the Council’s statutory duties and Constitution.

For this role, a good understanding of local authority governance, what it means to work in a political environment, excellent communication skills and experience of working with senior stakeholders will be essential.

You will need to be flexible, well organised and an active team member.

The role will be fast paced and include a diverse range of tasks. You will have demonstrable experience of working in a busy environment and need to be resilient, considered and calm at all times.

Additional Information

Occasional evening work will be required.

This role is politically restricted in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. This means that you are prevented from having any active political role either in or outside the workplace. Politically restricted employees are disqualified from standing for or holding elected office, and these restrictions are incorporated as terms in an employee's contract of employment under s.3 Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990.

You are also prohibited from canvassing on behalf of a political party or a person who is or seeks to be a candidate and from speaking to the public at large or publishing any written or artistic work that could give the impression that they are advocating support for a political party.
