Company description

The Elder Tree has developed a unique and innovative partnership with Plymouth City Council, Livewell Southwest, and Primary Care, and provides a cutting edge befriending service for vulnerable and socially isolated people over the age of 50.

We aim to engage the vast majority of our beneficiaries in a social engagement activity close to where they live that generates peer support and new and lasting friendships. For those who are particularly vulnerable and housebound, our volunteers offer their time to deliver a 1:1 befriending service in people's homes. We support all older people, including those living with dementia, mild cognitive impairment and long term conditions.

It is hugely important to us that we see our beneficiaries for who they are. We listen intently to what they want and treat them with the upmost respect. We do not see older people or their circumstances as a business opportunity and do not sell or endorse products or services.

As a charity we exist to support older people to continue to live independently in their own homes and we make a significant contribution to community cohesion and development. We are actively involved with many statutory and voluntary sector organisations and we offer a weekly program of over 90 social inclusion and light impact exercise groups in over 50 separate locations across the city.

Job Description

To work as directed by the Chief Executive in the day to day running of the Elder Tree.
To oversee the general organisation of all Elder Tree activities.
To oversee the charity’s CRM and office support systems.
To line manage the leadership team and administration team.
To work as the lead for the referral programmes.
To support the Chief Executive in liaising with appropriate statutory and non-statutory partners to maintain and develop the befriending service for those living in Plymouth who by reason of age, infirmity or isolation, have care needs that can be addressed by such a service.
To oversee specific projects as directed by the Chief Executive.
To be the Safeguarding Lead and to ensure all individuals are treated with respect and dignity and that their information is held in the strictest of confidences.
To champion and ensure all activities are in line with the charity’s ethos.
Any other tasks consistent with the role and job description as directed by the Chief Executive.

Essential:

Full driving licence and access to your own car.
Able to undergo a DBS check.
Great organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise your own work.
Ability to understand the needs of beneficiaries and volunteers and support them in their roles.
Great written and spoken communication skills.
Good computer skills.
Experience in managing multiple programmes of work.
Experience in managing staff members in various teams.
Awareness of safeguarding issues.

Advantage:

An understanding of health, mental health and social issues affecting older people.
Previous lived or working experience in this field.

Schedule:

Working week is Monday to Friday, no evenings or weekends.

Pay: £35,350.00 per year
