Are you a degree-qualified professional with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for the commercial side of construction?
We are a leading interior refurbishment contractor based in Preston, and we are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
This is a development-focused role designed for someone who is eager to learn the ropes of estimating and commercial management, from initial tendering and cost estimation through to final accounts. Working directly with our Managing Director and senior team, you will learn how to accurately price complex refurbishment projects and manage budgets, gaining hands-on experience on a variety of exciting commercial projects across the North West and Midlands.
- Learning the Foundations: Assisting with the preparation of tenders, taking off quantities from drawings, sourcing competitive quotes from our trusted supply chain and comparing them to ensure we have the best value for our bids.
- Tender Management: Assisting in the preparation of full tender packages, ensuring all costs for materials, labour, and plant are captured.
- Cost Analysis: Helping to build "first principle" estimates for bespoke refurbishment elements, from structural alterations to high-end finishes.
- Site Surveys: Attending pre-tender site visits to scope out projects and understand the practical constraints and how they might impact our pricing.
- Project Support: Helping to manage project budgets, tracking variations, and ensuring our refurbishments remain commercially viable.
- Site Engagement: Visiting our active sites to conduct valuations and gain a practical understanding of how your estimates translate into real-world builds.
- Collaboration: Working as part of a supportive team to ensure our clients receive the high-quality service we are known for.
What We Are Looking For
- Education: A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, or a related construction/numerical discipline.
- Analytical Mindset: You should love "the numbers" and be very keen to make money for the company. We need someone who enjoys the challenge of making a budget work while maintaining high quality.
- Tech Savvy: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential. Any experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Causeway, or similar) is a major plus.
- Attention to Detail: In estimating, a small oversight can have a big impact. We need someone who is meticulous and takes pride in their accuracy.
- Communication: You’ll be negotiating with suppliers and presenting figures to potential customers, so clear, confident communication is key.
- Mobility: A full, valid UK driving licence is required for site visits across the North West and Midlands.
Why Join Us?
- Direct Commercial Impact: You won’t just be a "cog in a machine." You will see the direct result of your work when a tender you helped price turns into a live project.
- Career Progression: We believe in promoting from within. As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and lead your own projects.
- Great Team Culture: We are a friendly, positive company that values our staff and offers a supportive, collaborative culture.
- Good Benefits: newly refurbished offices, great holiday package (including your birthday off!) and easy access to the motorway network.
- Professional Development: We are happy to support your journey toward RICS chartership or other relevant professional certifications.
