- Class 2 HGV Licence – Essential: You must hold a valid Class 2 / Category C HGV driving licence. The role involves driving and operating tankers and other drainage vehicles.
- Drainage Experience: Proven experience working within the drainage industry, with a strong understanding of domestic and commercial drainage systems.
- Drainage Maintenance & Repair: Experience maintaining, inspecting and repairing drainage systems is essential.
- CCTV Drainage Surveys: Experience carrying out CCTV drainage surveys is highly desirable.
- Mechanical & Practical Skills: Good mechanical knowledge and confidence using hand tools, power tools and drainage equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions.
- Physical Fitness: The role involves manual handling and heavy lifting, so you must be physically capable of carrying out these duties safely.
- Driving & Vehicle Responsibilities: You must be confident carrying out vehicle checks and operating commercial drainage vehicles safely and responsibly.
About the Role
We are a family-run commercial and domestic drainage business based in Bredbury, Stockport, providing professional drainage services to customers across a range of environments.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and dedicated Drainage Engineer to join our team.
This is a varied hands-on role involving drainage maintenance, inspections, repairs, CCTV surveys and customer contract work. You will work both independently and as part of a wider engineering team, diagnosing problems and delivering effective solutions.
The successful candidate will have a strong practical background in drainage and be comfortable working in both domestic and commercial environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesDrainage Engineering & Maintenance
- Inspect and assess existing drainage systems and identify defects or areas requiring improvement.
- Carry out maintenance and repair work on domestic and commercial drainage systems.
- Complete maintenance checks across various customer contracts.
- Troubleshoot drainage problems and implement effective solutions.
- Carry out CCTV drainage surveys where required.
- Use hand tools and power tools for drainage installation, repair and maintenance work.
- Read and understand drainage plans and specifications.
- Work collaboratively with engineers, contractors and other site personnel to ensure work is completed correctly.
Tanker & Vehicle Operations
- Drive, operate and maintain tankers and other drainage vehicles.
- Complete thorough pre-shift and post-shift vehicle walk-around checks.
- Record and report any vehicle defects or maintenance requirements.
- Transport equipment, tools and materials safely to customer sites.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are operated in accordance with company and safety procedures.
Site Work & Documentation
- Carry out assessments and inspections at customer sites.
- Perform manual handling and heavy lifting as required.
- Maintain accurate records of completed works.
- Record materials used and time spent on individual jobs.
- Capture and maintain photographic evidence of work completed.
- Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a professional approach when working at customer premises.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven drainage engineering / drainage maintenance experience.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and commercial drainage systems.
- A valid Class 2 / Category C HGV licence.
- Experience operating commercial vehicles, ideally tankers or drainage vehicles.
- Mechanical knowledge and the ability to use a range of tools and equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand drainage plans.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Good basic mathematical skills for measurements, quantities and job requirements.
- Ability to carry out heavy lifting safely.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- CCTV drainage survey experience.
- Plumbing experience.
- Carpentry experience.
- Welding experience.
- Experience working on commercial drainage contracts.
