Full job description

Premier Forest Products is one of the UK's leading timber importers, processors, and distributors. With over 20 sites nationwide and a workforce of 600+ employees, we have experienced significant growth in recent years through acquisitions and continued business expansion.

We are looking for an organised and proactive Transport Coordinator to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced individual to coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring our deliveries are planned efficiently while maintaining excellent customer service and operational performance.

Working closely with the Operations Manager and wider site team, you will be responsible for planning daily deliveries, coordinating vehicle movements, and ensuring transport operations run safely, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.

What You'll Do:

Plan and coordinate daily delivery schedules to ensure customer orders are delivered on time.
Optimise vehicle routes and driver workloads to maximise efficiency and minimise transport costs.
Liaise with drivers throughout the day, providing support and responding to any delivery issues or delays.
Work closely with the Sales and Operations teams to ensure customer delivery requirements are met.
Monitor vehicle availability and coordinate maintenance schedules where required.
Ensure all transport documentation, Proof of Delivery (PODs), and delivery paperwork are accurately completed and processed.
Ensure compliance with transport legislation, including Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, and company policies.
Support the management of returned goods and ensure depot procedures are followed.
Maintain accurate transport records and update internal systems.
Assist with customer enquiries relating to deliveries and provide timely updates.
Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with Group Health & Safety standards.
Identify opportunities to improve transport efficiency and support continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

Previous experience in a Transport Coordinator, Transport Planner, or Logistics Coordinator role.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with drivers, customers, and colleagues.
Good geographical knowledge and route planning experience.
Experience using transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of Driver Hours Regulations and transport compliance is desirable.
Experience within a builders' merchant, timber, construction, or logistics environment is advantageous.
A proactive, customer-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
