Early Years SEND 1:1 Support Practitioner (Level 3+)

Job Overview

We are looking for a caring, experienced, and dedicated Early Years SEND 1:1 Support Practitioner to join our team. This is a rewarding role supporting one child on a daily basis, providing consistent, individualised care and learning support to help them thrive within our early years setting.

The successful candidate will become the child's designated Key Worker, building a secure and trusting relationship while supporting their learning, development, communication, and emotional wellbeing. You will work closely with the nursery team, parents/carers, and the SENDCo, who you will report directly to regarding the child's progress, observations, and next steps.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive practice and has the knowledge, patience, and commitment to make a lasting difference in a child's early years journey.

Essential Requirements

Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above) is essential.
Proven experience supporting children with SEND is essential.
Excellent understanding of the EYFS framework and inclusive practice.
A caring, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children's individual needs.
Strong communication and observational skills.

Key Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 1:1 support for an individual child throughout their nursery day.
Act as the child's Key Worker, promoting their learning, development, wellbeing, and independence.
Build a positive, trusting relationship with the child, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs.
Plan and deliver engaging activities that support the child's developmental targets alongside the EYFS curriculum.
Implement individual support strategies and recommendations from professionals to promote progress and participation.
Support the child during daily routines, including mealtimes, toileting, transitions, and personal care where required.
Observe, monitor, and accurately record the child's progress, achievements, and next steps.
Work closely with the SENDCo, reporting regularly on progress, challenges, and outcomes.
Liaise professionally with parents/carers and external professionals to ensure consistency of support.
Promote an inclusive, safe, and nurturing learning environment where the child feels valued and confident.
Maintain confidentiality and follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and nursery policies.

Skills & Experience

Experience supporting children with a range of SEND, including autism, speech and language delay, sensory needs, or developmental delays.
Strong knowledge of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Ability to use positive behaviour support strategies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Patient, empathetic, and resilient with a calm and nurturing approach.
Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider nursery team.
Good organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and observations.
