Full job description

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and experienced Senior Care Assistant to join our team. As a Senior Care Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care while supporting and supervising the care team to ensure residents receive safe, dignified and respectful care.

You will lead by example, promote independence, maintain high standards of care, and work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home operates in line with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality personal care tailored to each resident's individual needs.
Administer medication safely and accurately in accordance with company policy and training.
Lead and supervise Care Assistants during your shift.
Allocate duties and ensure all care tasks are completed to a high standard.
Complete and review care records using our digital care planning system.
Monitor residents' physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, reporting any concerns promptly.
Support residents with mobility, nutrition, hydration and social activities.
Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports and handover information.
Liaise with healthcare professionals, relatives and external agencies when appropriate.
Promote residents' independence, dignity, privacy and choice at all times.
Carry out risk assessments and ensure safe working practices are followed.
Participate in shift handovers and team meetings.
Assist with the induction, mentoring and training of new staff members.
Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and concerns are reported immediately.
Maintain excellent infection prevention and control practices.
Support the Registered Manager with audits and quality improvement initiatives when required.
Act as the senior member of staff on shift in the absence of management.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience working as a Senior Care Assistant or experienced Care Assistant.
NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care (Level 3 preferred or willingness to work towards).
Medication administration training and competency.
Good understanding of person-centred care.
Knowledge of safeguarding adults.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions.
Good IT skills for electronic care planning systems.
Flexible approach to working shifts, weekends and bank holidays.

Desirable

NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
Experience using electronic care planning systems such as Log My Care.
Experience supporting people living with dementia.
Knowledge of CIW standards and the Regulated Services (Service Providers and Responsible Individuals) (Wales) Regulations 2017.
Moving and Handling training.
First Aid qualification.
