About the Role

We are launching a brand-new Mergers & Acquisitions Department and are seeking an experienced, commercially focused solicitor to lead and develop this practice area. This senior role is ideal for someone confident handling complex transactional work while also bringing valuable experience in Trusts & Probate, enabling seamless support for clients with wider private wealth considerations.

As Head of Department, you will shape the department's strategy, build internal processes, develop client relationships, and oversee the delivery of high-quality legal services. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a new department and play a key role in the firm's long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, manage, and grow the Mergers & Acquisitions department
Handle a caseload of M & A matters including acquisitions, disposals, restructuring, and corporate governance.
Provide specialist advice on Trusts & Probate matters where required
Develop departmental workflows, precedents, and structure
Build and maintain strong client relationships
Work closely with senior leadership on departmental strategy and business development
Mentor junior staff and support recruitment as the department expands
Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards

About You

Qualified Solicitor with significant experience in Mergers & Acquisitions
Strong working knowledge of Trusts & Probate
Proven ability to manage complex transactional matters
Confident leader with experience supervising or mentoring staff
Commercially aware, proactive, and able to build a department from scratch
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ambitious, organised, and committed to delivering high-quality legal work

Pay: £60,000.00 per year
