Role: Teaching Assistant (Level 2) – Motor Vehicle, Engineering and Construction

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable – Various Sites

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 2) to join our Motor Vehicle department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Teaching Assistant (Level 2), you play an important role in the success of our students through:

Student Learning & Inclusion Support - Support students’ educational, personal, and social development, promoting inclusion and engagement in learning activities while assisting learners with a range of needs, including those with SEND requirements.
Curriculum & Classroom Support - Assist teaching staff in the delivery of Motor Vehicle, Engineering, and Construction programmes by preparing learning resources, supporting practical and classroom activities, and providing class cover when required.
Student Activities & Supervision - Support the organisation of educational visits and activities, supervising students appropriately and helping to ensure a positive and safe learning experience.
Teamwork & College Operations - Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff, contribute to the effective operation of the department, attend meetings and training, and maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
Safeguarding, Compliance & Professional Development - Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health & safety requirements while participating in ongoing training and development to support continuous improvement and student success.

About you:

Qualifications & Sector Knowledge - Relevant Level 3 qualification in the specialist subject area, with Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths, and an understanding of teaching, learning, and learner support within a post-16 education environment.
Teaching & Learner Support Experience - Experience supporting teaching and learning in an educational setting, working with young people aged 16+ and/or adult learners, and assisting learners to achieve their academic and vocational goals.
Classroom Management & Student Engagement - Ability to manage classroom behaviour positively, follow lesson plans, support learning objectives, and maintain an inclusive, engaging, and productive learning environment.
Communication, IT & Teamwork Skills - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, confidence using Microsoft Office and learning platforms such as Moodle or Teams, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
Professionalism & Personal Attributes - Reliable, punctual, adaptable, calm under pressure, empathetic, and student-focused, with a strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and maintaining professional standards at all times.
