Full job description

Job Purpose

The Mentor is the key point of contact for apprentices throughout their learning journey, providing personalised guidance, motivation, and feedback to help them overcome challenges, stay on track, and achieve their apprenticeship milestones. Working closely with the Coordinator and Sector Specialist within a POD, the Mentor plays a central role in improving learner retention, completion rates, and overall satisfaction for both learners and employers.

About this role:

As a Mentor, you'll be the driving force behind each learner's personal and professional development. You'll conduct regular one-to-one mentoring sessions, build tailored development plans, and help learners break down challenges into manageable steps, all while working as part of a collaborative POD alongside a Coordinator and Sector Specialist who provide logistical, technical and subject-matter support.

Your week will be varied: from reviewing learner progress and AI-assisted marking outputs, to running tripartite reviews with learners and their line managers, to checking in with your POD on upcoming assessments and interventions. Increasing use of AI tools across the business is reducing the administrative load on Mentors, freeing up more time for meaningful, relationship-led mentoring.

This is a full-time role (40 hours per week), working from home and client sites, offering a salary of £28,000–£35,000 (pro rata, dependent on experience).

Person Specification

Essential

Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent
Level 3 in Education and Training or equivalent
Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting individuals through a learning or development journey
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload of learners at different stages
Confident using digital systems (e.g. a Learning Management System) to log sessions and track progress
A proactive, empathetic approach with resilience to support learners through setbacks
Comfortable collaborating within a team structure (POD model) and coordinating with other specialists
Experienced in the education sector and or associated sectors.

Desirable

IQA (Internal Quality Assurance) Level 4
Level 5 EAT (Education and Training)
Experience working within an apprenticeship or vocational training environment
Familiarity with AI-assisted tools used to support marking, feedback, or administrative tasks
Experience conducting tripartite reviews with learners and employers/line managers
Other sector knowledge relevant to Train Together's delivery areas (Care and Early Years, Accountancy, Facilities Management, Land-Based, Sustainability)
Experience with the School Business Professional and Business Administration apprenticeship standards.
