Job Introduction

Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre

Duty Manager

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and suitably qualified individual to join our Leisure Services team as a Duty Manager at Newport Swimming and Fitness Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the day-to-day operation of a busy council-owned sports and leisure facility. Working on a rota basis, including evenings and weekends, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and customer-focused operational management of the centre during your shift.

About the Role

As Duty Manager, you will:

Lead and supervise staff to ensure high standards of customer service and operational delivery.
Oversee the safe operation of the facility, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
Monitor and report on health and safety matters, implementing corrective actions where required.
Support the training and development of staff in operational procedures and best practice.
Act as the first point of contact for customers, dealing effectively with enquiries and resolving issues.
Assist in maintaining a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all users.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in a supervisory role within a leisure, fitness, or customer service environment.
Experience of supervising, supporting, and training staff.
Knowledge and experience of health and safety monitoring and reporting procedures.
The ability to work flexibly as part of a rota, including evenings and weekends.

Essential Requirements

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
Level 2 Health & Fitness Qualification, or the ability to obtain this within 6 months of appointment.
