Full job description

At New Chapters, we are a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live independently in a supported environment.

We are seeking waking nights and full-time day support workers to work with a service user who has autism and displays challenging behaviour. They are newly transitioning from young persons to adult services.

The service is in Almondsbury (BS32 4HU). The pay is £13.25 an hour.

Previous experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, epilepsy and behaviours that may challenge in a supported living setting is essential. About the roles

Our support workers:

Encourage the people we support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests.
Co-ordinate scheduled activities for the people we support, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming, while respecting dignity and privacy, and/or support or prompt service users to undertake their personal care (as appropriate).
Implement behaviour management strategies when necessary.
Maintain a clean and safe environment.
Update and maintain accurate records and take the lead and developing care plans.

The waking nights role is 37.5 hours per week and the day-time role 40 hours per week. Shifts are 12 or 14 hours, typically.

Role requirements – we are seeking someone who has:

Experience as a support worker in a supported living setting, with particular experience of working with people who have autism and display behaviours that may challenge.
The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations, particularly if faced with challenging behaviour.
Excellent communication and listening skills, as you will be supporting people who use various methods of communication.
Good basic comprehension of the English language, literacy, numerical and IT skills.
Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
