Role Summary

A talented and experienced Senior Designer to deliver the design direction of our media-funded print content. This role will be key in managing the creative process for all print-based assets, ensuring high-quality design that aligns with brand guidelines and meets the needs of both advertisers, Waitrose and audiences. You will be a part of a team of designers while working collaboratively with other departments to produce impactful and visually compelling print materials.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver the art direction and design of commercial content, ensuring high-quality execution of our magazines, newspaper, recipe cards, brochures and other print collateral
Cast, brief and lead food photography teams to ensure a high-quality output that meets supplier need, planned channel usage and maintains brand consistency
Collaborate with the editorial team to bring concepts to life and with the Video Lead to provide art direction for media-funded video
Contribute to the planning and delivery of the wider Food Studio content, outside of paid-for content
Work with printers, vendors, and production teams to ensure accurate, high quality and timely execution of print materials
Maintain and evolve the brand’s visual language across print assets, ensuring consistency and alignment with broader creative strategy
Present and communicate design concepts to key stakeholders, providing clear rationale and direction
Stay updated on design trends and print technologies to continuously improve design quality and efficiency

Required skills and experience

Proven experience (5+ years) in graphic design, with a strong focus on print publications and the production process
A strong portfolio demonstrating your experience in print publications, with examples of design-led editorial projects
Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and other design software
Strong understanding of typography, layout design, colour theory, and print production techniques
Experience managing and leading design teams, with the ability to provide mentorship and direction
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design concepts clearly to non-designers and clients
High attention to detail, ensuring that all designs meet print standards and client expectations
Experience in collaborating with external vendors, including printers and suppliers, to ensure smooth project execution
