About Vocatio:Responsio

Looking to make a difference in the way classical music is consumed, Vocatio:Responsio is an early music ensemble founded in 2024 by Merseyside-based violinist Samuel Oliver-Sherry during his undergraduate music studies at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford. The ensemble operates on a project-based calendar, with intensive rehearsal periods culminating in high-quality concerts that challenge the detached stigma of classical music performers in relation to their audiences.

Our main emphasis is on devising unique and compelling programmes that invite audiences to engage with wider musicological discourse within the familiar context of a performance setting. With its Latin name translating to mean ‘Call:Response’, the aim is to break the staunch barrier between performer and audience, creating an informal space for anyone to join in with musical discussion and immerse themselves as part of the concert experience.

Vocatio:Responsio are ultimately committed to making classical concerts accessible to all, while also encouraging its audiences to think critically about the music they’re listening to, no matter their experience. With cheap concert tickets (£5 for all), the ensemble believes that anyone should be able to enjoy and appreciate classical music, with the ensemble aiming to give that space to everyone in its audience.

In 2026-27, the ensemble will operate in two locations: during the university season, we will perform at least one concert per term in the University of Oxford, but new to this year will be at least one concert per vacation period in and across Merseyside. This follows the success of our March 2026 tour to Crosby, as well as an increasing desire to move out of student music making (as our first two seasons had been) and into a professional environment.

The role of Social Media Manager

The Marketing Lead in charge of Social Media & Publicity is responsible for promoting the ensemble and increasing its public profile through effective marketing, social media management and publicity. The role focuses on maintaining the ensemble’s online presence, advertising concerts and events, engaging with audiences, and supporting the recruitment of new members. Such duties will include:

Manage the ensemble’s social media accounts, ensuring content is regularly updated.
Create and schedule posts promoting rehearsals, concerts, auditions, fundraising events and other activities.
Analyse social media performance and recommend improvements to increase audience engagement.
Plan and deliver successful and exciting marketing campaigns for concerts and events, promoting ticket sales and increase public awareness of the ensemble.
Develop promotional timelines for upcoming concerts and events, coordinating publicity in the weeks leading up to performances.
Encourage audience engagement before, during and after performances.
Work closely with the Marketing Lead in charge of Creative Design to provide creative assets for marketing campaigns, producing materials that support concert promotion, fundraising and membership recruitment.

The skills required

The Marketing Lead in charge of Social Media & Publicity will have excellent written communication skills and a strong understanding of social media platforms and digital marketing. They should be organised, creative and able to produce engaging content for a wide range of audiences. The role requires someone who can work independently, manage multiple deadlines and always represent the ensemble professionally.

It would be desirable for the candidate to have previous experience in marketing, communications or public relations, particularly within a charity, voluntary organisation or performing arts environment. An enthusiasm for classical music, especially early music, would also be considered an advantage, however this is not a requirement for the role. If someone did not have the above skills but possessed the drive and motivation to learn, appropriate induction and any necessary training will be provided.

Hours of work

This is a zero-hours position: no minimum number of hours per week is guaranteed. Work will be offered according to the operational needs of the ensemble, and typical work may include evenings, weekends and occasional daytime hours. The busiest periods are typically in the weeks leading up to concerts. During these times, the Marketing Lead may be required to:

Deliver concert publicity campaigns across social media and other marketing spaces.
Manage supplier invoices and reimburse authorised expenses.
Capture photographs and content during rehearsals or performances (if possible)

Additional peak periods may include:

The launch of a new concert season.
Fundraising initiatives and community engagement events.
One-off posts that help keep our presence on social media sustained.

Outside of these peak periods, work may be lighter and more flexible, consisting primarily of maintaining social media channels, preparing future marketing content and supporting ongoing promotional activity.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
