Role purpose

As the Group scales, we are building a stronger in-house finance function and moving day-to-day execution into dedicated, expert hands. The Group Finance Officer keeps the financial engine room of every entity running cleanly: payroll coordination, invoicing, payments, credit control, commissions, expenses and reconciliations, plus the data quality that everything else depends on. You will be the internal point person who keeps our external accountancy firm fed with clean, accurate information, and who supports the CFO directly on cash, analysis and the monthly numbers.

We're building our finance function as AI-first from day one: someone who masters these fundamentals while using AI tools to automate, streamline and continuously improve how the work gets done, rather than defaulting to legacy manual methods.

This is an experienced hire, not an entry-level role. We need someone who already knows their way around finance operations across more than one entity, can take ownership from day one with minimal hand-holding, and has the judgement to spot when something is wrong before it becomes a problem.

Salary: £44,000–£50,000 depending on experience

Key responsibilities

Day-to-day finance (primary focus):

Coordinate the end-to-end payroll cycle across the group: manage starters, leavers and changes, gather and check inputs, handle approvals and resolve queries for around 55 people, working with the external firm who run the actual payroll itself.
Manage the sales ledgers: raise, process and reconcile invoices and receivables.
Process supplier and consultant payments accurately and on schedule, keeping a clear view of cash movements.
Run credit control end to end: monitor aged debt, chase overdue receivables and escalate at-risk accounts.
Validate and administer commission structures and payments so figures are correct, traceable and clearly documented.
Administer employee expenses (Pleo and reimbursements), checking claims against policy and coding correctly.
Keep records in Xero accurate and controls tight, and be the internal owner of data quality.
Help embed and improve finance processes and controls, using AI tools and automation (for reconciliations, anomaly detection in expenses and commissions, and reporting) to modernize how the day-to-day work gets done as the group scales.
Processing/managing external investors into subsidiaries/topco

Supporting the CFO:

Work with the accountants on month-end procedures for all group companies.
Maintain a rolling view of cash across all entities and flag issues early.
Produce ad hoc analysis and schedules on request, for example cost breakdowns, supplier spend and commission summaries, using AI tools to accelerate turnaround without sacrificing accuracy.
Help create information for partner, investor and board reporting.

What we’re looking for

This role needs someone who has done this before. The following are essential, not nice-to-haves.

Essential

Proven hands-on transactional finance experience in a multi-entity or group environment.
Strong on payroll coordination and credit control, with experience across accounts payable, receivable, payments and reconciliations.
Confident and proficient with Xero, and strong with spreadsheets.
Strong numeracy and accounting fundamentals, with a sharp eye for errors and discrepancies.
Highly organised and methodical, able to own recurring finance cycles and hit every deadline.
Comfortable working autonomously and bringing order to a function that is still being shaped.
Discreet and trustworthy with confidential financial and people data.
Clear, professional communicator who can chase, query and document without friction. Genuinely comfortable using AI tools and modern finance tooling day-to-day, and always looking for ways to automate and speed up transactional work.

Desirable

AAT qualified, or qualified by experience. Part-qualified ACCA or CIMA is a bonus, not a requirement.
Experience working alongside an external accountancy firm.
Experience administering commission or variable-pay structures.
Experience with AI-powered finance tools specifically (for example AI-assisted reconciliation, anomaly detection, or reporting copilots), beyond general day-to-day AI use.
Familiarity with expense platforms such as Pleo.
