Full job description

Anders Mechanical Services is looking for an experienced Mechanical Plumbing & Heating Service and Maintenance Engineer to join the team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and reliable engineer to work across a variety of commercial and residential properties, carrying out planned preventative maintenance, servicing, fault finding and reactive repairs to mechanical plumbing and heating systems.

Role purpose

Take end-to-end ownership of defects, warranty failures and service issues arising from AMS installations. This is a self-managing, customer-facing role requiring strong fault-finding ability, clear communication and accurate job records. The engineer will prioritise their own workload and progress each issue from initial report to satisfactory close-out, aiming to resolve problems on the first visit wherever practical.

Key responsibilities

· Monitor the service email inbox and telephone, recording all incoming defects and warranty issues promptly on the job-management platform.

· Triage each report and set the correct priority. Loss of heating or hot water during winter and uncontrollable leaks are urgent; isolated issues, such as one radiator not working, will normally be non-urgent.

· Diarise call-outs and planned visits, liaising directly with clients, main contractors and end users to confirm access and attendance.

· Attend sites to inspect, test, diagnose and safely repair or replace defective plumbing, heating and associated mechanical components.

· Aim for first-visit resolution by arriving prepared, fault finding methodically and contacting manufacturers' technical helplines when further diagnostic support is required.

· Obtain parts promptly through the procurement team or, a local plumbers' merchant to minimise delays and unnecessary return visits.

· Complete a clear report after every visit, including photographs, findings, work completed, parts used and any outstanding actions.

· Keep the client or end user informed, confirming whether the issue is resolved or a return visit is required, and upload all records and communications to the company system.

· Escalate safety concerns, significant defects, unresolved matters and customer issues promptly to management teams.

· Identify recurring site or product faults and provide sufficient detail to help management prevent future defects and improve installation quality.

Skills, experience and attributes

· Practical plumbing and heating experience, particularly in service, maintenance and fault diagnosis.

· Strong technical ability to identify root causes and complete safe, effective repairs.

· Clear and professional verbal and written communication with customers, contractors, colleagues, manufacturers and suppliers.

· Good personal organisation, initiative and accountability, with the ability to prioritise and manage a flexible diary independently.

· A methodical approach to photographic reporting, job records, defect tracking and timely close-out.

· Good digital skills, commercial awareness, a customer-focused approach and a full UK driving licence.

Training and development

Manufacturer and product-specific training will be provided where required. The post holder will be expected to maintain their technical knowledge and apply it consistently.

A good knowledge of air source heat pumps would be beneficial, although courses will be provided where necessary.

Salary and benefits

· Basic salary will be paid monthly in arrears.
