Full job description

Evidential Typing Assistants prepare typed verbatim transcripts and summary records of police interviews conducted under caution; typed witness statements; and 999 emergency telephone call transcripts in support of prosecution cases that are put before the criminal courts.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals for the position of Evidential Typing Assistant based at Wednesfield police station. The successful candidate will work with a dedicated team to prepare the above typed documents in accordance with strict deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

• To prepare typed, accurate, balanced and reliable summary records and verbatim transcripts of voluntary police interviews and interviews conducted under caution
• To prepare typed witness statements and verbatim transcripts of 999 Emergency Telephone Calls
• To prepare typed transcripts from digital or hard media recordings including CCTV, body-worn video and other electronic systems
• To liaise with police officers and staff in support of the work undertaken by the unit
• To maintain accurate records and ensure the security of recorded media and associated documentation

Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon you successfully passing medical checks, which may include a drug and hearing test.

Hours/Location: The hours of work are 20.5hrs per week at times agreed by management. The CMU is open Monday to Thursday from 07:00 – 17:00 hours and on Friday from 07:00 – 16:00 hours.

The role will initially be based at Wednesfield police station, but the team will be moving to Wolverhampton Central police station during the summer of 2027
