Peer Support Worker

In and around Winchester and one day per week in St Mary Bourne

22.5 hours per week (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday)

£15,163.20 p/a

As one of Hampshire’s leading Mental Health Charities, Andover Mind is entering an exciting phase of growth to meet the needs of our communities around mental health and wellbeing support associated with the Community NHS Transformation Programme. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with lived experience in mental health.

The mental health and wellbeing of the communities across Hampshire is our top priority and we are looking for a Peer Support Worker to join a mental health service across the Primary Care Networks in the Winchester area. Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are groups of GP practices who work together in a local geographical area and over the couple of years, we have been working with the NHS to improve the local mental health services within GP surgeries in our region.

As an integral and highly valued member of our team, this is an opportunity to “give something back” in a positive way by sharing wisdom from your own lived experience of mental health problems, our Peer Support Workers inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible.

Our Peer support workers build feelings of empowerment, self-esteem and confidence and enable people to regain control of their lives and their own unique recovery process. Peer support is a strengths-based approach which recognises the individual as a whole person rather than only focusing on the problem. Work is carried out in GP surgeries.

This is a non-clinical role which promotes self help and works as an integral part of a Primary Care Mental Health Service. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team alongside other professionals such as; Peer Practitioners, psychological therapists, social prescribers and a dedicated GP Lead.

Hours will be worked in an outreach capacity, GP surgeries located within the Winchester area, and one day per week based at Derry Down surgery (St Mary Bourne), some hours may be worked at the Andover Wellbeing Centre and there may be some opportunities for home working.
