Job Description:

Beacon Comms a highly successful telecommunications infrastructure company, have an excellent opportunity for a motivated, hardworking individual to join our small and friendly payroll team based at our offices in Tavistock.

Our Payroll Assistant will be supporting the Payroll manager, taking on and proactively seeking opportunities to ensure that all areas of work within this busy Team are up to date, as well as taking on responsibility for many of the day-to-day tasks which present themselves when you are undertaking payroll on behalf of a company employing in excess of 200 employees.

Previous payroll experience is desirable but not essential. We seek someone who works well under pressure with a "can do" attitude, who demonstrates the aptitude to be able to learn fast and then apply that leaning to future tasks. You will require excellent skills in both verbal and written communications, as well as being able to comfortably work with word, excel and outlook software. This role is all about discretion, accuracy and the ability to deliver right first time within tight deadlines, therefore you will have the ability to work well and accurately when under pressure

This role will be challenging and diverse, however, the primary focus is administration and so being highly organised with a strong attention to detail and the ability to keep up your motivation and accuracy levels even when some of the work may be considered repetitive or mundane is going to be essential, along with the appreciation and value of organisation and process in the running of any successful business.

This role offers great potential for the future for the right person, our hours are 0800 to 1730 Monday to Friday with 60 mins for lunch, this is a full-time position and will be based at our offices in Tavistock, there are no opportunities for part-time or working from home offered with this role.

Key Role Responsibilities:

Process monthly payroll accurately and within agreed deadlines.
Maintain employee payroll records, ensuring all data is accurate and up to date.
Process starters, leavers, contractual changes and employee benefits.
Respond to payroll queries from employees in a professional and confidential manner.
Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and payroll information in line with GDPR.
Support continuous improvement of payroll processes and procedures.
Undertake general administrative duties to support the Payroll department as required.
Administer employee expenses and subsistence claims, ensuring submissions are accurate, appropriately authorised and processed in accordance with company policies.
Process and monitor employee Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks, including new applications, renewals and record maintenance.

Experience and Skills:

Previous payroll or finance administration experience desirable.
Good understanding of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements desirable.
Experience using Sage Payroll desirable.
Strong numerical and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
