The Vacancy

Fixed term, 18 months

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

We’re looking for a curious, enthusiastic and collaborative People Business Partner to provide expert guidance on complex employee relations matters while delivering strategic and operational HR Business Partnering to people leaders and the wider teams.

What you’ll be doing

As a pro-active partner for each business area, you’ll drive and influence the people agenda to drive performance while continuing to build the culture we are creating where everyone feels valued. You will ensure people practices help the Cumberland achieve its strategic goals while fostering a positive colleague experience.

You’ll Provide professional HR Business Partnering to the people management teams and fully embed the People Business Partner model across the business by building strong working relationships and flawless execution of add-value HR initiatives, in line with our Belonging Strategy.

You will also take a leading role in:

Employee Relations (ER) case work, providing expert advice and guidance on the processes and roles involved.
Providing the appropriate level of challenge and support to seek to improve the performance of each business area, through their people.
Ensuring people engagement is a top priority and there is the right level of focus and support across the department to deliver improvements.
Understanding the workforce plan and resourcing requirements for each business area
Coaching managers on building high performing teams with emphasis on improving performance of individuals.
Championing our people agenda with emphasis on creating a workplace where we are all proud to work and where our people experience and culture enables people to bring their ‘whole self’ to work and empowers them to produce their best work for us.
Providing best practice HR advice and support to coach and develop management and leadership capability in all Employee Relations (ER) activity.
Working collaboratively with the Talent Acquisition team and people leaders to plan recruitment needs and support the selection process for key roles.
Work collaboratively with the Reward and Benefits team ensuring the accurate processing and checking of payroll
Delivering presentations and training sessions on colleague policies, employment legislation and people management best practices.

What you’ll bring

Experience, knowledge and qualifications:

CIPD qualified or equivalent
Track record of operating and influencing at a senior leadership level
Significant and demonstrable HRBP experience dealing with ER case work
Evidence of continual professional development

Skills, abilities and behaviours:

Proven track record in translating business strategies into meaningful people plans
Commercially astute and able to influence at all levels
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Solid experience in change management
Ability to effectively coach and mentor others
Committed to quality, learning and continuous improvement
Sound understanding of employment law, case law and its application.
Ability to manage projects, including resources, costs and time implications.
Ability to create and develop relationships with key stakeholders in the business.
Highly organised with sound interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven ability to work autonomously and manage own workload.
Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across business functions.
